On Wednesday Wolves welcome Chelsea to Molineux for the first time since February 2017, an FA Cup game which Chelsea won 2-0. The last time the two met at Molineux in a league game was in January 2012 when again, Chelsea ran out as 2-1 winners.
Historically however, Chelsea have not always had things their own way. The two sides have met a total of 105 times in all competitions, Chelsea have won 41 of those games, Wolves have won 38 and 26 of the games have been drawn.
Chelsea come into this game on the back of a 2-0 home win over Fulham having lost the previous game, a 3-1 defeat away to Spurs. Prior to that they hadn’t lost a game this season.
With games coming thick and fast thanks to the Europa League, Maurizio Sarri has been rotating his squad game on game. With the Fulham game being just 3 days before this one, it’s odds on that he will make some changes again.
After a solid start to the season Wolves’ recent games have been far less impressive. In their first 7 games they gained 12 points, scored 8 goals and conceded 4. In the most recent 7 games they have gained points 4, scored 5 goals and conceded 11.
With a tough run of games over the Christmas period including a home clash with Liverpool and a visit to Wembley to face Spurs for the second time, the Wolves faithful will be hoping that their team continue the trend of saving their best performances for the ‘top 6’ sides.
Nuno Espirito Santo will also be forced into making changes to his preferred starting 11. With Jonny Castro-Otto out for the remainder of the year, 19 year-old Ruben Vinagre will most likely step into the left wing back position again. Star midfielder Ruben Neves picked up his 5th yellow in Cardiff and is suspended for this game. As a result, 18 year-old Morgan Gibbs-White may well be handed his first league start.
Gem’s prediction: 1-2

Looks quick and looks to have good positional sense from those clips. Maybe a little small but similar to Son of Spurs.

Managers do not fluctuate to all those systems, simply because the players themselves will get confused.
Playing 3-4-3 has got us to where we are today and given the right players in the future it will more than likely keep us on track with what Fosun are aiming for. You yourself have mentioned the fact that we have and I quote "two excellent midfielders and two very effective wing backs" Why then, can't they work it out for themselves how to adjust. It's not rocket science. You seem to be suggesting that our talent players cannot think for themselves and play like robots. In recent matches their passing has been atrocious and that's nothing to do with Nuno. We have a wide pitch and should keep the ball out wide and stretch an opponents midfield. We played a lot of fast, counter attacking football last season and hopefully we can regain that type of play in the near future.

How many players have we seen on youtube scoring goals over the years only to fail when they arrive at Molineux. He'll fit in to our 3-4-3 system tho'.

I noticed with interest that Rangers beat Hearts (who were top for a while) away from home the other day.
Rangers overcame Hearts, who played with 5 in midfield as opposed to Rangers only playing 3 in a 4-3-3 formation.
Funny that.

Not sure if understand your point Wolfie.
Even one of nunos analysts told him he needed to change the tactics in game

My point is that you can overcome teams playing with 5 in midfield when you are only playing with 3.

You can make the same point as many times as you like. The facts are that Huddersfield and Cardiff played 5 across the middle closed us down and gave us no space and made our central midfield players and wing backs ineffective. Conversely Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea made no special plans for us, just focused on their own game, and we excelled against all of them. There is a reason we play well against the good teams and struggle against the poor ones. I believe that is one of the main reasons.
