It depends how brave and/or generous Roman's feeling. He'll be breaking our transfer record on a player who no-one had heard of six months ago. If he does flop we'll miss our opportunity to get someone more established in the summer, and Piatek will in all likelihood still be at Genoa by the summer anyway.
It's a desperate signing so the circumstances would need to be desperate to justify it.

We were willing to waste money on Drinkwater and Bakayoko for 75 million pounds approximately. So,I fail to fathom why can't we spend that money on a quality player like Icardi.

So having no strikers is not desperate!

That much you think? I doubt he'll go for more than £50m which wouldn't be a terrible gamble to take for someone who could reach Harry Kane level I think.

Chelsea need HG players. I can see this happening.

BrummieBlue - Our overall situation isn't desperate, cemented in the top 5 and still in all comps. It'll need a situation that lead to Roman blowing 50mil on Torres in January, which in itself is reason enough to tread carefully on the idea.
Erik - In January he'll be 60mil+ for sure. Genoa will see him as a cash cow now, they know they'll have takers in the summer (Inter will be in if Icardi leaves for a start) so it would have to be an offer they couldn't refuse. Very risky.

Two wrongs don't make a right.
If the 96mil buyout clause is real then Icardi the clear no.1 option. The problem with him is Europe's elite when all be chasing, Real & PSG will be our competition, we'd have to offer him one hell of a wage package to turn his head in our direction.

. Like the game but rarely play it, not very good at it
Piatek is like a new player to the table whose risen every turn on the first deal, he might have a good hand or he might be bluffing, it's tempting to call but we'd have to throw a $hit ton in the pot to find out

The overall situation isn't, but the situation with our strikers is!
