Is it not more the point that he is a fictional mythical character deeply ingrained in childhood and parenting for hundreds of years
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, but 100 years ago he also was seen as green, and in dutch culture he is depicted as owning black slaves.

Point is father christmas/santa claws is depicted differently through time and from person to person.

Should we not just allow people to have their fun?

The most popular current image of Santa has only been around 80-something years, and was created for the Coca-Cola Company.

Coke's own website has a page dedicated to the current image, and starts thus:

"The Santa Claus we all know and love — that big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard — didn’t always look that way. In fact, many people are surprised to learn that prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. In fact, when Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union."

Not quite as set in stone as you might have imagined.

Also, another thing is that this survey means shlt to the overall point of this article.

"27 percent of those asked believe he should be rebranded as female or gender neutral"

Yes, that's hardly surprising is it? 27% means feck all; some participants were obviously likely going to give novel results, as they are looking for ways to rebrand. That does not equate them believing that father Christmas should be changed.

Also 43% also answered that he shluld be modernising his method of transport, but where is the news reporting for this.

All I see is a bunch of crap news outlets intionally trying to stir up trouble.
