Whos in, Whos out?

Evening all,

Palace have rarely been busy in the pre season transfer market but with the squad being a bit fair again, who's going to come in and who's going the other way?

Danns - Appears to be leaving. No news on a contact being signed and seems he will be gone sooner rather than later with Hull, Leeds and Rangers all rumoured to be interested.

Murray - Signed from the Weed. Thoughts on the signing? I think only time will tell. His goal scoring record at Brighton was fantastic but will only know May next year wheather he managed to make the step up. On a free transfer, so if you bag 10-15 goals from him this season, I think it will be seen as success.

Clyne - On holiday last I heard. No real news on him. Could definately make the step up this season but will the right offers come in for him, and more importantly, us. Being in a position where we dont have to sell our best players is rather refreshing.

Ambrose - Read on the BBS that he might be on his way to Norwhich! Dont know how much truth there is in this but how will that affect us. He had a great season which went considerably downhill the next. So, the initial thought from me is not too big a deal, if we get the right money. However, how much of a presence is he in the dressing room. He is certainy a fans faveroute and with his wife giving birth only last week, will moving be positive?

Gardener - Rumour has it, its all but confirmed. With the departure of Caude Davis, Anthony's signiture seems ever so important.

Rhodes - Big transfer talk from our end that he is wanting to move, and Palace is his prefered choice between ourselves and Millwall. Another player with a good goals to games ratio in League 1, but how much truth is in this move, who knows!

There are plenty more players that we are being linked with so I will leave the rest with you guys. I think it's refreshing and exciting being linked with players after summers of no news!

Rhodes looks like a good prospect, but he has only made ten appearances at Championship level while with Ipswich in 2009. He scored once, and spent much of his time on loan in League Two, before two seasons in League One with Huddersfield where he has scored 39 goals in 90 appearances- just over a goal every three games.

Ipswich's starlet is obviously Connor Wickham, but does Rhodes have his potential? Ipswich obviously thought not.

His goal tally in League One is impressive, but life is tougher in the Championship. I think that he is certainly worth signing, but I would have thought that a million pounds is just too much for a team like Palace to be spending on 'potential'.

For 300 - 400 k we could get an experienced forward (in the mould of Alan Lee) who could guarantee us goals in the new campaign.

Don't get me wrong, I am not advocating spending all our money on older journeymen players, but I just think we already have you potential in our strikers here and we need to be a bit shrewd with our signings. A million quid on 'potential' is somthing of a gamble here.

Cheers mate, all the best for yourselves too. On Danns, he is a very workrate player. Danns likes to get on the ball and more often than not, keep it. He does seem to run sideways a lot and is his one major downfall. He doesnt release the ball early enough for me. However, he is very tricky. He manages to turn players and shrug people off of his shoulder and come out with the ball. If doing his little tricks and turns come off, then it looks good, if not then it can be very frustrating as more often then not there were other options to offload to. His workrate is very good and does his fair share of tracking back aswell as attaking. Danns' shooting is standard. He doesnt set the game alite with 30yard stunners but does seem to find himself in the right places at the right time and more often than not, gets the shot away. For me, his best position is playing just behind the striker(s). Playing in 'the hole' he can be very dangerous with his movement and ball control.

I think if he would do extreamly well in Scotland, however I dont see him moving that far up North. All the best.

With Rhodes, I would be happy paying between 500k-800k. However, it isn't my money!

I know its a gamble, but I think its a gamble worth taking. He clearly has a good enough finish with his goal tally in League One, so I think it would be down to his movement so he can get into those goalscoring positions. A partnership with himself and Murray could work wonders, but could also be a massive dissapointment. Time will tell, but I think its a gamble worth taking.

Finally found my way onto here.....

The big debates at present seem to be what to do with Clyne and Ambrose. Danns is as good as gone and we have to accept that. With Clyne having a year left on his contract and pretty much no chance of signing a new one, any bid around £2m should probably be accepted. Losing him and Danns on frees in successive years isn't financially sustainable.

Ambrose is more interesting. If we can get anything over £1.5m for Clyne then I don't see all that point in cashing in on Ambrose unless a couple of incredible deals present themselves to us or we get a big bid of £2m+ which we could use to bring in a couple of more established players.

In terms of players coming in, I think we all know it's going to be quite a few bodies.

Experienced CB, Younger CB, Defensive Midfielder, possibly another CM, 1/2 Wingers and possibly another Striker.

Most of the targets are fairly well known.

Anthony Gardner (Hull) and Scott Doe (D&R) at CB.

Jose Semedo (Charlton) / Kagisho Digkacoi (Fulham) at DM.

Thierry Racon (Charlton) / Chris Lines (Bristol Rovers) at CM.

Oscar Gobern (Saints) / Craig Forsyth (Dundee) / Danny Green (D&R) / Craig Conway (Dundee Utd) as Wingers.

Derek Riordan (Hibs) / Jordan Rhodes (Huddersfield) / Jamie Vardy (Halifax) as strikers.

These are to name but a few but trying to stay on the more strongly linked ones. The policy seems clear. Look to the lower leagues, look youthful, look cheap and look promising. Looks like a good policy, and a few of them coming in would set us up quite nicely.

jordan rhodes is a cracking prospect!! but he wont be joining you for 2 reasons..1 we dont need to sell being a richer club than you..owner worth 350m..and 2 why would he want to join your YEARLY relegation fight!!

For a start I think you will find money can bring players to your club, but it doesnt always keep them there. Tevez wants out of Manchester and countless Chelsea flops went there for the money and found themselves moving on for football reasons.

We may have struggled these last two seasons but most players with any self belief will feel they can make the difference and move a club forward.
