Poch: I Am Building Legacy

Interview this weekend from Poch: https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11675/11588186/mauricio-pochettinos-relationship-with-daniel-levy-laying-foundations-on-and-off-the-pitch

The endless attempts by the press to unsettle us by trying to sell him - not to mention the shameless tapping up by ex-Man Utd players in the media is disgraceful. Does anybody listen to what Poch says? "I'm so committed to show my best for this club" "I'm committed to this project" "If they want me I will stay here for 15 years". Five months ago he signed a 5 year deal worth £8.5m a season, knowing other clubs may be interested in him soon. Does any of that present as a guy who is wanting to jump ship? .

Utd have the status & wealth - they are a historically bigger and more successful club than us with a greater global presence. I’ve no doubt Poch would mull the option over in his head, who wouldn’t? But he's verbally & contractually committed himself to THFC for the long term. We also know of his desire to see the project through, lead us into the new stadium and deliver silverware.

"Spurs don’t have the same money to spend as Utd do". Does anyone think that when Poch took the Spurs job on he wasn't fully aware of what lay ahead? That he didn’t know he wouldn’t have a £100m war chest available every window? He was brought in with a specific remit - as a young progressive coach who could work with young players, recruit well and ideally deliver CL football at the new ground, and he bought into this vision heart and soul.

If anyone seriously thinks that Levy is going to sit back and let Poch, his main man, and his team to waltz off to a rival halfway through the biggest project in the clubs history they are deluded. For that to happen, Utd would have to make an approach, whereupon Levy will shut it down and refuse to allow them to talk to Poch. So, in order for Poch to leave he’ll have to down tools & demand to be released from his contract. Does anyone see Poch doing that? He is a man that lives by his principles; he demands respect, commitment and loyalty from everyone that works with him. Look at the way he has castigated key players in Walker and Toby when their loyalty was called into question - it’s a trait he values above all others. If Levy isn't prepared to let Utd approach, then Poch will continue the job he has committed to - such is his character.

He left Southampton? Yes, after a fall out at board level when the man that brought him there, Nicola Cortese, was forced out and the remaining board deviated from Poch & Cortese's strategy and began asset stripping the club. An entirely different dynamic.

Its not 2008 anymore, Utd aren't the swaggering poster boys of the PL that can cherry pick any player/coach they want. The departure of Ferguson, TV deals inflating the coffers of smaller clubs, FFP, the rise of City, the break up of the Sky 4 and of course the ineptitude of Woodward have seen to that. Utd are now a club bereft of identity; a bloated commercial behemoth lumbering from one mistake to the next, throwing endless cash at problems of its own making in increasingly desperate attempts to avoid 'doing a Liverpool'.

I’m not stupid enough to deny that the extraordinary can happen, people can surprise you, circumstance can change. For all his faults I have always been a pro-Levy Spurs fan, I think he is an excellent custodian - a Spurs man who always fights with ruthless doggedness to ensure the best interests of our club. But, having established ourselves in the upper echelons of the PL after spending so much of it in the doldrums I’m firmly against us strengthening our rivals. We allowed Walker to join City, the club that had just finished behind us. The result? They improved into a better team than us, diminishing our chances of success. I'm resigned to Toby joining a rival, which is beyond the pale. Should Levy be complicit in allowing Poch to join Utd I will be turned against him as it will prove once and for all that the financial growth of the club means more to our owners than its on-pitch success, and that we don't have the ambition to remain competitive.

If the worst should happen, then I don’t believe Eddie Howe, as suggested, is the man to carry us forward. We would need someone in Poch's class and that is not Howe, much as I like him. The only two candidates should be Jardim, or Simeone (I'm actually surprised his name has hardly entered the Utd equation).

But I believe no contingency will be required. Poch will continue to work with Spurs on the project he’s built, where he has control, great relationships with the board & fans, where he is highly paid and committed to a long deal, working to achieve great things with the team he has built, developed & nurtured, in the incredible new stadium he has helped the club move toward.

If Levy was a financial genius he wouldn't have had to have just borrowed yet another £400m.

Lewis doesn't do enough for Spurs imo.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nope, they secured loans up to £400m should they need it, doesnt mean they will need to use it, despite what you see in the media.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

So they haven't borrowed £400m?

The club said the borrowing was “up to £637m”, representing an increase of £237m or 59% on the initial £400m.

Financial genius you say?

Even a genius can`t make pound notes disappear, the cost is what it is, what do you expect, for him to build it for fack all.... understandable coming from a Mouser, as a lot of things on Merseyside are obtained for `free`

It has to be paid for, Levy is and will manage it superbly well, we couldnt have anybody better to over see it. You keep clinging to the notion that Spurs are all of sudden going to fall apart, and we`ll get on with our business

I've not said or even thought Spurs are going to fall apart, you've literally made that up.

However, if you think finishing late and massively over budget is financial genius managed superbly that's fine.

No major building project is ever on time. The Emirates took 2.5 years to build, ours less despite being a hell of a lot more complex (sliding pitch etc). The cheese room alone cost us 6 months
