Right. It's Christmas.
So naturally of course we have to talk about the greatest television show in history.
What is Homer's funniest line of all time?
I still think it's him looking at the world map and seeing Uruguay and then he says "look at this country , you are g@y"
Or this one:
"Hello , my name is mr. Burns. I believe you have a package for me"
"Ok mr. Burns what's your first name?"
"I don't know"
Homer Simpson

I saw this in a movie about a bus that had to Speed around a city, keeping its Speed over fifty, and if its Speed dropped, it would explode. I think it was called, "The Bus That Couldn't Slow Down”.
It’s like kissing a peanut.
If I had $10,000 I’d be a millionaire!

When he previously put an unconscious Marge in the driving seat after crashing a car while under the influence:
"But Marge, I swear, I did it out of love! Love of not being arrested!"

“Operator! Give me the number for 911!”
So much of it was so very obvious, but so very funny. For me, it was the closest that the Americans ever got to appreciating or mimicking the best of Morecambe and Wise. As such, alone, it showed genius.
It also tangentially - and I think Groening only ever wanted to do it tangentially - provoked thought on a lot of varied human subjects, as well as variously using parody, irony, slapstick, puerile humour, black humour, farce, hyperbole, surrealism, situation, highbrow... in fact, pretty much every form of comedy every created, and near universally with success.
Find me another show that can match it for a combination of variety, originality, hilarity, accessibility, longevity and success, because I'd love to see one that gets even close.

It is very inventive. Perhaps South Park? Which is funnier in my book, mostly due to skirting so close to the bone with what they do.
