DPL vs Gillingham

Some shaking up seems to be called for after the last performance.

Rowe should surely be starting again by now and it is surprising that they cannot find someone better than Cummings to fill in at right back; Blair is surely an obvious choice if none of the young squad players is up to it.

I see that Anderson (J) is leaving which seems a good decision because he always seemed short of what was required and perhaps with this new Championship loanee coming Taylor will be on his way too. The new loanee is likely to have been playing on loan in League 1 or even the National League if he is cup-tied, so does anyone know who has been scoring at that level?

As for the match, I have been to see them at Gillingham quite a lot and cannot remember them winning, so visualising it is difficult. Perhaps their win over Portsmouth will not have the right effect and we will somehow put on an improved performance.

I'll say a 1-2 defeat and Wilks/Kane with the goal and 5000 there.

I did not see the first 32 minutes as my iFollow video feed dropped off just before the game started, just leaving the text. I had to contact them to get it back - had to re-register and change my password for some reason. The wonders of modern technology!
Obviously I did not see Marquis' goal, but what I saw was a totally different performance from last week. We were dominant, and really should have scored more. Our shooting accuracy is still not what it was some games ago.
Once more, Whiteman was my M of the M. Rowe is getting back to his real form - except for finding his shooting boots! We really have strength in mid-field with someone like Ali Crawford dropping to the bench and Blair being used as a right back. However, not sure we have a real replacement for Whiteman.
Hopefully, the previous two games were just a blip, and I'm now more confident of a possible top six finish.

After a fairly banal first twenty minutes or so we scored our first goal and from then on we dominated proceedings.
I never felt that we were likely to concede and said at half time that we would be good for another two or three goals.
All in all a good victory and there were some particularly good performances by Wilks, Marquis, Whiteman and all of the back four.

I am going to disagree. Gillingham were really poor and they scarcely got into the Rovers' half in the first quarter. We knocked the ball around in their half with a passing accuracy which might have touched 30% with Gillingham too inept to intervene and despite the possession, hardly had a meaningful shot.

For once, I agree with the opposition manager, in that all the goals were gifts.

In the second half they brought on Tom Eaves and together with their left winger (List) they started to make an impression.

Herbie is skillful, but seems to have lost sight of the team objective, intent on beating opponents with fancy ball-play, so he could have been more productive.

The central defenders played well, Blair was good in the first half, but I could not really judge what went wrong in the second on his side of the pitch.

Marquis, May and Rowe put in plenty of effort, Wilks played on his wrong (right) side, only able to control the ball with his left foot, but did take his chance as did Marquis.

It may be 3 points, but they would not survive in the Championship controlling the ball as they (fail to ) do and passing it so badly. The pitch was flat and there was not much wind so there were no excuses.

Looking forward to Tuesdays game, wonder if this Tyler kid will get a run out. Been housebound since Christmas day, so have missed my football fix over the festive period. Thought Blair played better at right back than Cummings, so could get the nod. Hope Kane gets back to playing how he did before all this signing contracts reared its head, as it seems to of affected his. Onwards n upwards boys.
