Sarri's Post-Match

https://weaintgotnohistory.sbnation.com

Absolutely laid into the players and he is bang on too.

No desire, no fight, no responsibility.

Above all - no leaders.

We've gone from a team of absolute warriors to a group of over-hyped princesses. The leaders in the dressing room keep exiting the club and there is no one to replace them.

Will be very interested to see what comes of these comments, don't remember a presser so absolutely demolishing of their own players for a long time.

And before we all say it's Sarri's fault for playing the same players - I somewhat agree, but we don't exactly have bags of quality or leadership on the bench either.

I don't know where the change is going to come from. We have no one of the Terry, Cole, Lampard, Drogba, Ballack ilk who will grab their teammates and demand better.

Two things are going to happen - either we lose all hope and go further downhill fast or the players accept the much needed bashing and pull their finger out and start fighting for the club.

Is he heck. Some of the hate Sarri is getting is well over the top. I don't agree with everything he's done since he's arrived but he's absolutely nailed it regarding our players. They do lack fight and we do lack leaders.

Also this culture of player power has to stop at the club. If our precious players don't respond well to these comments and decide to down tools yet again for a manager then that's just further proof that we need a huge clear out of players this summer.

Whilst I see where he's coming from I can't help thinking he should have kept it "in house".

The false 9 and refusal to change things up and overall stubbornness is starting to grate a bit.

Just read what he said, he is playing a very dangerous game. They are Mourinhoesque comments. Could easily lose the dressing room with a few more poor results.

Watching the game yesterday I think he has to take the blame. The way you set up you were never going to score. Just passing sideways with no threat.

Flash our strikers have been awful so you can understand why up until now he's persevered with false 9 although hopefully we're done with it now Higuain is coming. Giroud was crap yet again when he came on which basically proved Sarri right for not starting him.

As for changing things up yes it would be good to see Cho used much more and Emerson tried instead of Alonso. Loftus-Cheek probably would have played had he been fit but he wasn't. Not sure there's a wealth of other good options not being used.

The op is right , no desire ,no fight ,no responsibility, and most of all, no leaders .
Dave ,Rudi ,and Luiz have got to step up to the plate more, they weren't around much yesterday at all.

quotes quite outspoken for him..maybe it’s looking too much into it but seems like a watershed moment, maybe the squad buck their ideas up or maybe they don’t take kindly to that.

motivation is not something attained through the press. sarri has to get off this road.

Playing our best two players out of postion absolutely brings his tactics into question so he has got that wrong. I would also ask him to justify Jorginho not being left out. This is not the Italian league where traditionally players get more time on the ball compared with PL. Start with these two issues then we can start to question the clubabout lack of strikers cos I would ideally have 3 possibly 4 to choose from not the 2 we have at present

Sarri always quick to points towards the mentality of players in defeat (reflects badly on him), never takes responsibility for his own failings.
Talks about them being difficult to motivate, maybe just maybe that is because they have no fear of being dropped.
And yes quality does exist (in squad) outside of the 13-14 players Sarri chooses to focus on but they've been mismanaged.

I could think of previous manager that used to do that, which never sat well with me and quickly descended into players no longer responding to methods. Dangerous territory.

I agree with this observation also. It's not impressive publicly digging out the players for not being up for it (even though I agree that he may well have a point there) when the tactics that they are being asked to pursue by him with the false 9 clearly haven't been working for a while now. Yes we beat City using it, but that was more because the players performed than the tactics employed IMO.

On Thursday against Spurs I would like to see him give the Teachers Pet and no-goal threat Kovacic a night off and play Barkley and Kante in the holding DM role even though we haven't prepared for that until now, play Higauin (I assume he can play) and let Hazard do what he does best and I could see us beating them, but apart from Higauin playing I don't see any of that happening.

I don't want Sarri to be sacked but he does need to show that he can be flexible tactically and not just a one-trick pony, with no effective plan B in his armoury.
