What's everybody's favourite course, and is it links or parkland.
I prefer links by a distance. I've played Monifieth, Carnoustie,
Prestwick, and others in Scotland.
Formby, Hillside, Hesketh, Birkdale,Lytham st Annes, and many more in England.
Birkdale is my favourite for a few reasons. It was fairly close to home, is a great course, because of the dunes you hardly see anyone else, and I scored 84 first time out, proper rules but yellow tees.
God I miss golf.
Favourite courses.

Freedom FC.
It is all down to luck. I've played in July, Southerness and Western Gailes and it was bleak.
I have also played for a week on the east coast and had sun every day.
As a rule the east is drier than the west, probably a little windier, and probably a little cooler. But not much in it.
July, August, September aren't normally cold, not to me anyway, but particularly near the coast can be windy.

The thing is Freedom is that it's a mind set, like a lot of golf really. There are wonderful links courses in Scotland, with great holes, super turf, views and history. If it's windy look at it as a challenge, play within yourself, realise it's the same for all so par isn't important. Dress well, and a wee dram after cures all the cold.

I tend to end up around the mid to late teens but that’s with either pars or snowmen!
.................
I played a back 9 at Myrtle Beach once that went:
4-8-4-8-4-8-4-8-4. One of the 8's was a par 3 and one of the 4's was a par 5.
My playing partner said I was the most psychotic golfer he had ever seen.
How do you fix a problem that isn't there for half your shots.

VC; I am much better at matchplay than stroke play. I can do well with a target, longest drive, nearest the hole etc. Plus winning against mates.
Stroke play is OK, I play to around 10 to 12 on long links courses, 8 to 10 on my home course. When we play as mates we play strict rules except lost ball or out of bounds when we drop and add two.
I do enloy matchplay more, there is too much waiting around on comp days, at what was my club anyway.

I just play for fun.. Obviously sticking to the rules. I don't enjoy serious golf. It is one of the reasons why I always preferred to watch Phil instead of Tiger.

That’s what it is for me too. With me, I know it’s something fundamentally wrong with my grip or stance that I’m able to compensate for most of the time. The problem is spending the time to work out what that is and also the knock on impact of going worse before it gets better trying to fix it.
I need to go back and have a few more lessons with a decent pro to work it out really (can’t recommend that enough for anyone wanting to improve). It’s just the time investment. I enjoy it even with my inconsistency!

Just wanted to say thanks for this thread OP, because of it I dusted off my clubs and played 9 holes (badly) this morning

I play off 22 yes I’m that bad.
However it does nothing to dampen my love or enthusiasm for the game

Irish. My game improved no end when I bought the new Pings, had them fitted and had the lessons. I also practiced occasionally.
I get what VC says about playing for fun, I did too. But I had more fun when I played better.
