Alonso was one of the most overrated players in recent Chelsea history.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I never thought he was that highly rated by the fans.
Also, as a LWB for at least one season he was very good.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The amount of times I saw ‘best LB in the world’ or ‘plays like Marcelo’ or ‘great technically and going forward’ when he has always not been able to dribble, cross or be great on the ball is astounding. Most fans didn’t want Sandro as they thought he’s no worse than Alonso.
He was an important cog in Conte’s first season at wingback, so was Moses, both still needed improving if we wanted to keep it up. If you suggested improving on Moses most fans agreed, suggest Alonso improvement I found most fans jump at you.

Jorginho's one of our best players.

Nah he just fits the system. Not saying that is bad at all just don't think it's all that either. He needs to do more. Help attack etc. He is always 40 yards from goal.
--------------------------------------------------
Fair point about the system but I do think he's an underrated player in general. Not many players are as calm on the ball under pressure as he is in Europe, let alone our team.
But agreed, we need more of the true Regista he was at the start of the season, advancing beyond the CM's.

This reminds me of another potentially unpopular opinion..though I’m not sure of it myself lol
I don’t mind Jorgi, I get his role in the team. But I think he’s just a ‘good’ regista and not really a ‘great’ one. And I wonder whether if we ever want to reach title challenging, steam rolling teams to the side level, we need a great one. His passing range is actually worse than I expected, he does not protect ball well when pressed, and (this is not a deal breaker but useful to have) poor shot from distance. Is he more Aqualani than Pirlo/Xabi?
I say I’m not sure, though, because he’s one of a few players who probably looks better if/when we sort out LB, RW and striker and maybe midfield. And he was a key part of a very strong Napoli side, so maybe we will only see the best of him when the rest of the team is upto scratch.

I get what you're saying. I think the Regista tag has hurt him to a degree cos people started criticizing him since he stopped playing like one. The last few months he's played like a standard deep lying playmaker.
I think it's Sarri realizing you can be turned over quicker in the PL than Serie A so he's instructed Jorginho to sit behind the CM's which exposes people to his weaknesses (e.g. poor long distance passing, defensive positioning, etc...), he's the kind of player who'd look like a monster at City whose attacking players know how the pin opponents down. I have faith Sarri will figure out a balance, as Jorginho's the heartbeat of his system he'll have too.

The problem is our insistence on playing the ball only to Jorginho, Rudiger and Luiz. Teams are finding it easy to pressure us when we play out from the back. We are too one-dimensional. It was great at the beginning when teams sat off and let Jorginho complete a hundred passes a game but he can't cope with pressure.

Completely disagree. From what I've seen (and admittedly I don't watch every game) you've got the problem backwards.
We were at our best earlier this season when teams were pressing us high because of Jorginho's intelligent movement to provide the escape pass (I learned a few days ago the tactic was coined at Napoli as 'pressing bait'. We've been figured out in the sense opponents don't press us high up the pitch anymore so Jorginho's main skill has been neutered. You combine that with the fact he doesn't advance beyond the CM's when we have opponents camped and you have an ineffective player.
That's my main issue with those who criticize Jorginho. It's not that he's a bad player because he can 'only pass 5 yards', teams have figured out how to neutralize his impact making him an ineffective player. But that can always change, it's up to Sarri to counter the counter.

None of those things were ever said.
Let's go back to 3 cb's, play Ampadu in the middle of it, keep Rudi and buy a stopper.
Azpi is getting p'd off too.
