about Hazard not being a leader? I think hes right in a way Hazard is by far our and maybe the leagues best player, but he is in no way like Lampard or Terry or Ballack or Drogba. He doesnt shout and give orders like Terry or run his socks off like DD

He's no Terry, Lampard or Drogba et al with circling the wagons etc but in the big games he inevitably does step up to the plate more often than not which if all 11 did then who needs a leader?

Here are the quotes from Sarri:
Asked whether Hazard, who has captained Belgium 28 times and led them to third place at the World Cup, also has such qualities, he said: “I don’t know ... he’s more an individual player than a leader. He is very important for us, because he is a great player. He always can win the match in two minutes – sometimes in one minute but at the moment he’s not a leader. He’s a great player – one of the best in the world.
“I think he has to do more, because the potential is higher than the performances. He has to respect first of all himself. You know very well that Eden is a wonderful player but he’s an individual player. He’s an instinctive player. For him, it’s very difficult to play only in one position. He likes very much to go in the direction of the ball, wanting the ball at his feet.”

I don't think Hazard is a leader on or off the pitch in the manner that y'all described. I think our team has slowly had that mentality eroded and are at risk of lacking the sort of players to reinforce it.

He's a leader on pitch, does the talking with his feet. Been carrying us far too long...

Totally agree. People mistaking individual brilliance with leadership. They are not the same thing.

He’s a leader on the pitch. Maybe not vocally but his football does the talking. Been carrying this team for years.
I remember his performances for Belgium before he became captain. Okish. Since he became captain he’s been unbelievable for them. Scoring/assisting regularly. Which is why I wouldn’t have been against him taking the captaincy of Cahill at the start of the season.

Comes down to what you consider to be leadership qualities. Far and away our best player and as such, others look to him to galvanize the team through his play and actions. Unfortunately, I don't think he is always up for it and that can have an even greater detrimental effect than just your best player being on a walkabout as it impacts the motivation of others. He does not appear to be a vocal leader, one to gee up the men or appropriately chastise them. Can't really say what he's like in the locker room but, at least in the past, doesn't set the example for dedication/effort with his training habits. All that said, he may grow to fit the role as TLLL pointed out so I wouldn't be against him being named club captain.
