Emile Smith Rowe joins RB Leipzig

Anyone else a bit surprised we are letting this guy join Leipzig, albeit on loan?

I know he hasn’t played at all recently, but he was promising when he had played and I would have expected him to feature more after returning from injury.

Will he really get a lot of game time playing at Leipzig who are a decent team in Germany with aspirations of regular CL football?

Not sure we had the option to curtail Nelson’s loan, did we?

Not without paying a fee I don’t think

Nelson is injured ffs

Yes right now he is but before the winter break he wasn’t injured and was barely playing

He had enough game time and cameo's especially in the EL and Bundesliga given that he is a Youngster and on loan.

Unless we were going to play him, I don't see why we would cut his loan short. Getting 20+ minutes most games, if we thought he was ready to start he wouldn't have gone on loan in the first place.

I’m not saying to cut his loan short. I’m saying he needs to start playing more. He was Hoffenheim’s top scorer at one stage and still could barely get off the bench towards the end of the 1st half of the German season. If he carries on making the odd 15 minute appearance every 2nd game then I don’t see how he can come back expecting to stake a case in the Stettin XI or even the squad for that matter

Thats not what happened though. He played 26, 30, 71, 24 then 12 minutes in the last games before injury. He hasn't failed to make an appearance since the 5th game before his injury, so not every 2nd game at all.

Jadon Sancho only started about 7 games last season, and I think Reiss has already made double the appearances. It is a step in his development, his first as a regular senior player.

I think because Sancho is having a good second season people think Reiss should be at the same level in his first season. An easy comparison to make, but not the best.

Probably had to loan ESR so we could afford Suarez wages, the pile of gash, pisspot financial position we're in.

Smith-Rowe is said to help on the left offensive wing. After the long injury of Emil Forsberg and the failure of Bruma here the staffing is thin. After all, the Portuguese should start training again today.

Here is the translation of the Kicker quote FYI

Think the experience of a new culture away from home with different training methods is just as important in their maturing process.

Yeah, sometimes youngsters make their debuts and fall into a comfort zone. There is also the problem of youngsters being too good for the U23s but unable to get into the first team regularly. There is a great risk of them losing motivation and fading away.

I expect ESR and Nelson to both come back better equipped to become first team players regardless of how many minutes they get in the next 4 months.
