Sportsmanship or entitlement?

Just wondering what peoples view was of the incident in the Celtic/motherwell game yesterday which has been slightly overlooked by a goalie tantrum.

Player is injured, ball is put out of play, player receives treatment and game continues. However the opposing side don't give the ball back but go on to score.

Sounds pretty bad sportsmanship

However

The player injured was a Celtic player. The player who put the ball out was a Celtic player. The only team that would gain an advantage would be Celtic in having 11 fit men on the pitch having had the player treated and pronounced fit rather than competing with 10 men.

I have no problem with giving the ball back if its been done for an injured player from the opposite team but I think its a bit rich that your act of "sportsmanship" only benefits your own team.

Thoughts anyone?

We are very sporting at Dundee. Whenever the opposition kicks it out of play, we give it straight back to them. Most of the time when the opposition give us the ball in open play, we give it back to them. It's very sporting and nice.

My dad used to ref Sunday league and he had something similar happen to him before. Player went down so the opposition kicked it out of play, then when the game restarted they went to give it back to the team that kicked it out, except the player proper leathered it and he ending up lobbing the keeper.

All the players and parents were demanding the goal be disallowed but there's no law that says you have to give it back so the goal had to count

But this wasn't the opposition kicking it out but his own side. They gained their advantage by being back to 11 fit men

Motherwell did nothing wrong IMO, Celtic kicked it out so their own player could get treatment, that’s their prerogative but Motherwell are under no obligation to give it back to them.

I think it was more a misunderstanding of how this type of “sportsmanship” works rather any sort of entitlement on Celtics side.

They should adopt the rugby approach and let the physios on to treat them while play continues.

That'd sort out the fakers.

the new trend of taking short goal kicks that have to be retaken because the ball doesny leave the box.

-------------------------------------------------

I used to do that. Got the keeper to play it short, but run into the area and touched the ball before it left. Ref blew for it to be retaken. Already taken 30 seconds, wasted another 15 or 20 retaking it.

Game management.

Should be an indirect FK.

I know. Absolutely did it on numerous occasions though.

The player went down holding his hamstring - turns out he’d done his hamstring and limped off - who’d a thot it !

Celtic had the ball when he went down and played it out for a throw - nothing untoward in that. It was poor from Motherwell to play towards goal when the Celtic players just stood wondering WTF

Poor stuff from Motherwell

Except the only team to benefit would have been Celtic. Your player, your decision to kick the ball into touch so your player could either receive treatment or substitute to have 11 men on the pitch.
Now had you done it for a Motherwell player that's a different set of circumstances.
That's what I mean by entitlement, we want a level playing field and the ball as well.

It's not game management, it's cheating. More accurate, only one word, and quicker to type. You should use it in future.
