1. Real Madrid
2. Manchester United
3. Barcelona
4. Bayern Munich
5. Juventus
6. Manchester City
7. PSG
8. Chelsea
9. Liverpool
10. Tottenham
I made my list based on:
1) How good these teams are currently
2) World class players at these clubs currently
3) How rich these clubs are
4) The managers at these clubs (i.e. I think Guardiola being at City currently elevates their status as a bigger club)
5) History
6) Recent trophies
What would your list be dudes?

I'm genuinely curious as to why people are only talking about history and are considering no other factors at all.
--------------------------------------------------------
True, and it's why I never get involved in these 'biggest clubs' article.
Thing is people who demand the inclusion of teams like Ajax or Celtic in these lists always forgot Santos. Most historically recognized club in the most passionate football country in the world which produced the most recognized player in history. In terms of history, tradition and heritage Santos is a monster
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah was gonna say no River Plates, Boca Juniors etc. Seems like everyone forgets the South American continent in these debates.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
prob because their leagues are gash and no one in the west watches them
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yet they probably get watched more in the USA than any league here tbh, it would be between that and La Liga for sure in terms of viewing figures in that continent.
yet people are putting Ajax on the list of top 10 clubs over the likes of these. They maybe don't get in over the likes of Juve for example but certainly they should be in contention against the likes of Spurs, Ajax, etc.

It depends how you define big club. I’m sure any player at those clubs would jump at the chance to join Tottenham for one though.

Don't disagree Whal but that would be a decision based purely on the monetary side. Many players from these clubs return to them when there are more lucrative options available in Europe though - Tevez is just a more recent example.

Not purely based on money. I think playing in Europe itself in a team that’s in a bigger league is a reason as well. A team like Tottenham as well playing in the champions league, which is the biggest competition in club football, is another reason. Playing with players like Kane, Dele Alli, Eriksen etc.
I have no doubt these clubs have amazing fanbases and great histories, but I think even clubs like Tottenham who are maybe ‘second tier’ in terms of size in Europe are still in another league in terms of their standing in football compared to clubs like boca juniors, Santos etc who may be more comparable to Ajax, Celtic, Leeds United etc.

Going to base this off of marketability and lure.
1. Real Madrid
2. Man United
3. Barcelona
4. Bayern
5. Juventus
6. PSG
7. Liverpool
8. City
9. AC Milan
10. Arsenal
I dunno about 10. Could've been Chelsea, Dortmund, Atletico, etc.

To be fair I think most people have the same top 5 and in the same order:
1. Real Madrid
2. Man United
3. Barcelona
4. Bayern
5. Juventus
I think the next 5 are the most problematic to pick.

Fair point Whal, Copa Libertadores is probably the second biggest though and certainly has some pull. I think others are also dismissing the viewing figures for these clubs across that continent and I would argue that more people watch Santos, Boca and River in the USA than say LA Galaxy.
You are possibly right though in that they are more comparable with a third tier European team (Ajax, Celtic etc.)

I'd agree with that, with the exception of comparing clubs like Boca/Santos to Leeds, no contest in terms of historical significance there
But considering so many people base these lists on history and fanbase alone they can't be overlooked yet constantly are. How can someone include Ajax based off the strength of total football & the Cryuff revolution and ignore Santos' 1960-1970's side with Pele and so many others which formed the spine of Brazil's 1970 WC winning team? If you include one you have to include the other.

Basically it seems to me that its based on Champions League/European Cup>Copa Libertadores.
I think there is an argument for that being true, which is why South America is wholly disregarded in this argument.
Wahl (this will never be said by me again) is right in that there is a third tier of European clubs that would match upto Santos, Boca and Plates - the likes of Ajax, Celtic, Everton etc. That aren't top ten in the world but just below that.
