LFC Player Ratings: Southampton (A)

Evening lads

Another stressful 90 minutes down, another potential 5 to go.

Anyway, onto the player ratings:

Alisson 7 - not the busiest of nights apart from a few dangerous set pieces. Did everything that was asked of him.

Trent 5 - Really disappointing performance. I’ve given him an extra mark for the assist but he played with far too much caution tonight when we badly needed to up the tempo.

Matip 6 - good and bad at times tonight. Seemed to cope better out of possession than in. Some of those Joel Messi runs resulted in Southampton counters.

Virgil 7 - Carra criticised Virgil and Robertson for the goal we conceded. Difficult one really as Long was unmarked so Virgil had no choice to move toward the ball. It was his starting position that cost him. Other than that though, coped very well with crosses into the box.

Robertson 6 - put some decent balls into the box first half and linked up well with Mane in the second. Well out of position for their goal.

Keita 6 - a little harsh perhaps? Maybe but I’m sticking with it. Delighted to see him get what proved to be a valuable goal but was also guilty of getting caught into possession. He still seems to have an issue with the pace of the league.

Wijnaldum 4 - Didn’t do a thing tonight. The game seemed to pass him by. That strength we seen at the start of the season was nowhere to be seen tonight.

Fabinho 6 - also struggled at times tonight. Didn’t break the play up as well as previous weeks. Got better as game went on.

Mane 8 - Carra said Fabinho has been our best player in 2019 but i’ll Have to disagree with him on that one. That honour goes to Mane who was a thorn in Southamptons side tonight - notably in the second half.

Firmino 8 - Bobby was going to be a 7 tonight but then capped off a hard working night with a brilliant assist. But it was his defensive side that proved so important tonight.

Salah 7 - Goal number 50 for Mo in an LFC shirt. What a great achievement and the goal itself was sublime. Truth be told though, I thought he was still struggling at times tonight. Hopefully the goal will turn his form around going into the final 5 games.

Subs:

Milner 7 - Solid and determined from Milly when he came on. His eperience showed.

Henderson 8 - Got to say, that was a great 30 minutes from the Captain. Aggressive, hungry and capped it off with a goal.
