no top 4 a good thing?

It's more about being a less attractive proposition without CL football. In recent seasons United have thrown megabucks at players to tempt them to come while they were in the Europa League, and this is partially what has left them with a disjointed team that lacks motivation.

No top 4 means you lose a big chunk of revenue. Which might get your owners' attention.

Wage bill drops by 25% from £295m to £221m ish.

CL revenue last year was £35m, earned £40m from winning the EL the season before.
Matchday revenue probably a bit higher than EL but balanced out by number of games
Adidas sponsorship gets dropped £20m.

Probably still a net profit increase.

That assumes actually winning it, and also the distraction of all those Thursday nights.

If we do end up in the Europa I'd hope it would be used to play the youngsters, squad players and players looking for fitness/sharpness. We've won it now to complete the set so not that important to me.

Utilising the squad should be enough to get through the group and then we could revisit our options dependant on where we stand in February.

The Thursday/Sunday thing is a bit of a pain but, if managed correctly, I don't think it would matter that much.

Agree with pretty much what you say

Hated the Thursday/Sunday thing though. You're right in that it shouldn't make that much difference but factoring in the teams in the EL tend to be from the weaker footballing nations (thinking Far East Europe here) and therefore the travel becomes a significant downfall to the PL progress

Get what you are saying with those long trips. That's why I'd seriously shuffle the pack for them. Maybe go for it more in the home games?

Not a long trip at all for Spurs in the CL though. Fantastic chance to get to a final now!
