Yes, I'm aware it's a football forum but this morning I had my spotify on and we were treated to classics by REO Speedwagon, Scorpions, Led Zeppelin, Bowie and the slightly more recent Chilli Peppers, Lighthouse family, R.E.M etc etc
Imagine my horror then when a few of the younger girls in the workplace suggested we put the chart music on.
After an hour and a half, I felt like I'd listened to the same two artists, Ariana Grande and Stromzy. Every other song sounded identical.
I was an 80s kid so perhaps I'm getting old but does anyone else think modern music is absolutely trash?
Maybe I just don't know where to look for the best sounds?

Scientifically proven that as you age your brain function alters to not enjoy 'new' music as much. Reminisce away
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not sure I buy the age thing, even if what you say is true. That might convince me if new always meant innovative. But it doesn’t: music from the Cowell factory, which the older generation often abhor, is utterly lifeless and unoriginal. It’s not confusing and noisily offensive - it’s just bland and soulless.
Music these days is a lot like fast food. Go to a food court and see the queues outside McDonald’s. Is it the best restaurant there? No, it’s just been marketed well and provides a quick rush or fix. Similar with chart music.

We all love the music we liked when young, it was new, exciting, and our parents didn't like it. So I like Elvis, the Beatles and music from that era, and I still do. Also some music from other eras but that will always be the best for me. My Mum and Dad said it's all boom, boom, boom but they liked Frank, and Ella and Vera Lynn.

The problem is nowadays is in achieving uniqueness.
Everything, to a certain extent has been done before
It doesn't help that "record companies" won't gamble on a new band or a new sound as it will not be deemed economically viable.
Bands like Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, ELP, Wishbone Ash, Marillion, etc etc would be consigned to the graveyard if they were trying to "make it" in the music world today.
It's no wonder that a lot more material we here today is produced by bedroom "musicians" who are very good at stringing loops together and sonically mangling sub-standard vocals and instrument playing, polishing a rancid tvrd to within an inch of its life but without any "real" musical talent whatsoever.
Thankfully I grew up with what I think will be considered the golden age of popular music (all genres)

I’m pretty open minded to music - liking a full range from some classical stuff, thru 1920 blues/jazz, 60s Beatles and psychedelic, 70 rock and punk and 90s Oasis/Blur/stone Roses..
missed my Geography O-level (gcse to you youngsters) to go and see Black Sabbath!
Anyway - came across Billie Eilish thru this track on the GoT trailer. One of the few new artists to appear over the last decade or so who’s a little different

True OP. Complete gash. Some great music is Drum & Bass but it rarely gets any publicity. Check out Rene LaVice's Drum & Bass Show on Radio 1. Artists like Wilkinson, Dawn Wall, Sub Focus don't get the recognition they deserve.

It's total cr*p. I swear I heard 3 different songs played back-to-back on a radio station's playlist and they sounded virtually identical.
Just no originality.
