Let me shake this table

Kante

This could be an unpopular opinion but if Sarri still remains here next season, there is no need keeping Kante as he will never be played in his preferred position. Why not cash in on him and get another midfielder that will suit what Sarri wants to achieve in that RCM spot? For all his improvement this season, Kante still shows his limitation in our offensive plays.

Kante has never been a CDM though, he played in a 2 man midfield previously in which he was a CM

I get what the OP is saying though - even if I don't agree with the idea of selling Kante myself. It could be argued that Kante is being somewhat wasted as a RCM player - rather than in his previous CDM role.

You could argue that it would be better to have a great technical, attacking midfield player in that position - like KDB (god forgive us for selling him) or a young David Silva or a young Iniesta - rather than putting a square peg in a round hole, which some people might suggest is Kante's situation. You could get a HUGE fee for selling Kante, and then replace him with another world class player who is more suited to playing in that position under Sarri's formation.

To be frank the only way to fully utilize Kante's potential is the play with a two man midfield, in any three man midfield formation he's a square peg in a round hole. Playing at DM you retain his defensive instincts from a deeper position, but you completely sideline his energy and aggressive pressing (basically what makes Kante Kante)

The closest Kante can get to being deployed in a non counter attacking style while still playing him to his absolute best is in a gegenpress, which is basically very aggressive counter attacking

If we were to sell the Little Emperor ,and to retain Il Duce, those riots in Paris are nothing to what would happen down the Fulham Road !

First thing most fans would do if they were manager...

Put Kante back further.

I say most...

He has played DM before, seven times for Conte. One MOTM performance, a few average games, and got torn apart by Arsenal causing Conte to reshape the entire formation.

So yeah, he's mixed as a defensive midfielder.

Agree Tablighi. But under Sarri's system, CDM is the only alternative - that's what I was saying. Sarri does not play a central 2 so the best position for him is that right sided midfield position to make use of his incredible running and pressing. Kante does play in more of a CDM for France however, and although it's probably fair to say he isn't utilized to his maximum when playing for France - he is a World Cup winner in that position so he's not too shabby there either.
