Also, Van Dijk isn't as good as Kompany in the air. The on thing Kompany lacks is speed. But for me, Kompany has been at the top longer than any other defender and experience counts when you play as CB

I personally don’t care about this apparent fascination as to whether player x is better than player y. And especially so when it comes to comparing players from different periods. All I care about is how good any player is for the team he plays for. And what he brings to the team and how he can help drive that team on.

Kompany has been excellent for City. Whether or not other players are better than him simply doesn’t detract from the fact that he has been excellent for City.

Fans of United and Liverpool seem obsessed with this kind of thing. Scholes and Gerrard being a classic example. Does it really matter? When both sets of fans can genuinely say that what scholes and gerrard contributed to their respective clubs was immense, and that contribution made those fans feel proud that they wore their shirts, does it really matter who was better?

And nothing ever comes from these kind of debates. No one can prove right or wrong either way. They are therefore the very definition of pointless.

And I would actually argue that the intent behind such debates isn’t actually to big up one player. The intent is rather to belittle a player

It’s akin to the big club debates. People are so either/or about it. They become so engrossed in size that they forget the actual fact that...

Just like more than one club can be regarded as big, more than one player can be regarded as good.

And to regard one club as big, or one player as good doesn’t have to be to the detriment of another club or player.

It’s about time simple minded fools like the OP understood that.

Kompany was excellent tbf and Yaya before him. Along with Silva and Aguero I'd say PL greats

Although for some reason I just out Aguero below the others. Just my opinion
