DUFC 3 ICTFC 0 (DUFC win 4-0 on aggregate)

United progressed to the final of the Premiership playoffs with a comprehensive, if not a little controversial, victory over the Highlanders.

First and foremost though, it's been a while since I've enjoyed a game of football as much as I did on Friday night. We had a good crowd in (over 8,500) and for the first time in a long time everyone was pulling in the same direction and got right behind the team. The atmosphere was terrific throughout and it made me realise how much I've missed big games with good atmospheres.

Secondly the game itself was a good, entertaining match. Yes we won comfortably in the end (and it could have been more emphatic) but it was telling that our keeper was arguably man of the match after a series of terrific saves. Credit to ICT for that as they definitely made a game of it, particularly in the first half. The heads went down after the second goal of the evening which condemned them to another season in the Championship, and that's understandable.

The game changed on another controversial incident, coming after a questionable red card in the first game. No wonder John Robertson was raging (more on him later). While the ball did hit the defenders arm, I'd have been raging if that was given against us. The shot deflected off his leg and up on to his arm. There's little he could have done but the ref pointed to the spot, and the penalty was converted.

United did kill the game early in the second half after a first goal for the club by Osman Sow. This came approximately two minutes after my brother declared that Sow was pash and would never score a goal for United. And to be fair he wasn't great, but he did what was needed. After that there was only one winner and the scoreline was completed by Safranko who came off the bench to score a terrific goal.

To be frank we should have had more, and Clarks missing an open goal was a minter as we say up here.

A lot of positives to take from the game and to be honest I can't wait for Thursday night at Tannadice against St Mirren. It'll be tough against a team that's been winning lately, but we've got a chance. And what pleased me most is we have three strikers all on the scoresheet which has to boost confidence.

A word on Bouhenna too, who went into the midfield and was imperious. MOTM for me ahead of Siegrist.

Back to Robertson though, his radio interview was astonishing and he laid into the officials with both barrels, calling the fourth official a liar and the officials arrogant after he was sent to the stand at half time. Leaving that aside though, I have a massive amount of respect for the way he conducted himself at full time. After not being allowed on to the park to shake hands with Neilson, he stood at the tunnel and applauded the United players as they made their way off the park, shaking hands with each player then applauding the United fans. That takes a lot of class and credit to him for it.

So St Mirren it is for us. One last push. Mon the Terrors.

nuetral venue, one game, would be much better.

Probably would be to be honest. I suspect they felt two legs would give the Prem team and advantage?

I totally agree, but the whole play-off system is badly skewered in favour of the Prem team. I suppose it's the only way they would have started it in the first place.

Do what I did and go in the away end at St Mirren. It's sometimes good to get the perspective of the team that wins
