Seen this on an article discussing teams most expensive starting 11:

https://www.football365.com/news/the-most-expensive-xis-ever-manchester-united-to-wolves

Manchester United

De Gea

Dalot Lindelof Bailly Shaw

Pogba Fred

Di Maria Mata Martial

Lukaku

Total cost: £479.8m

Average player cost: £43.6m

Record signings (3): Juan Mata (£37.1m, January 2014), Angel Di Maria (£59.7m, August 2014), Paul Pogba (£89.3m, August 2016)

Players no longer with United: Angel Di Maria

Players signed by each manager: Jose Mourinho (6), Louis van Gaal (3), David Moyes (1), Sir Alex Ferguson (1)

Don't really know where to begin with this. £480 million spent. A lot of those players get slated on here regularly, a lot wouldn't feature in a 'strongest 11, Jose signed over half of them, none of the outfield players were signed by SAF.

For me, this shows just how poor we've been in the transfer market since Gill left. Ed didn't trust Jose with the money but what has Ed done to show he should be trusted with it either. And this doesn't take into account the money being spent on Sanchez's wages!

What do you make of this 'most expensive XI'?

Would’ve been more damning without him as it’s our current squad

Yeah we are happy with our current standings. We've come from nowhere to challenge city right till the end and also have 2 consecutive champions league finals.

Wouldn't take the FA cup or Europa league over that.

I would take three or four (Shaw I'm 50-50 on) of that back 5. Lukaku is far from faultless but wouldn't bin him unless we were bringing in a forward who would contribute a decent number of goals. Martial, could be a good player if he wanted to be. But his attitude in itself is everything that's wrong with United. New big money contract, no effort.

Clearly a lot of wasted money. Also plenty of wasted talent through sheer lack of effort. That has become a recurring theme at this club, sadly. That's why the efforts to sign young, hungry players are appreciated on my part.

Not so sure about trying to create a technical department based on nothing more than having played for us though. No room for romanticism when it comes to looking for the best man for the job

Yes but I assume you wouldnt swap success with us either despite the fact we've had two titles in the last 5 seasons

Most of your good feeling is based on the expectation of success(which I expect will come in the CL)

The question really is should the world end tomorrow who would have been the happier supporters

Hogwash.

I'll be unhappy if we don't win the CL but the good feeling won't be going anywhere.

Desperate.

If that happens Liverpool will bow out as the bigger, greater, more successful club and therefore Liverpool fans will be happier.

The likes of Liverpool and United would be true greats if the world ended tomorrow.

Chelsea would be a tiny club that got doped up by a Russian gangster in the last 15 years of existence.

15 years is nothing after the world has ended. Chelsea would be a doped up speck in the grand scheme of football, which scheme would be dominated by great clubs like Madrid, Milan, United and Liverpool.

You assume if the world ended tomorrow the last 15 years would take prominence over the foregoing century.

But since were playing this game, what if the world ended in 1992? Would be crazy, right?

You did sort of miss the point that this was about current squads and personnel

I answered your question honestly, reasonably and accurately. That's all.
