Paul Pogba

Anyone look at him and think………….

“Thank goodness the club didn’t indulge Jose on that wish"? Because a few people that know Jose were saying he wanted Chelsea to sign Pogba from Juve in the 2015 Summer transfer window.

I cannot question his talent. So United fans who may stumble across this, please don’t think I am. But when I see him he’s either United’s best performer or a total liability. There never seems to be any in between.

And I’m questioning how much of that is to do with the player’s attitude.

Like I say this is a sincere question to fellow Chelsea fans and not a dig because he’s a United player.

Chances are your squad would have looked different had Pogba joined in 2015. Dropping a winger for Pogba and allowing Hazard to drift behind the striker like Tevez did under Conte works anyway.

I never got the impression Jose really wanted Pogba. He’s the antithesis of a Mourinho player.

Yes and no. Tactically Mourinho's always favored playing with a midfielder capable of breaking the lines from deep positions - Deco, Lampard, Sneijder - his three best teams all had one. It's vital to how he likes his teams to transition.

In hindsight probably would've rather had someone like Dele Alli, that's a Mourinho player.

Yes, because you have a glass ball and you can predict how he would have performed at Chelsea with a different team around him.

Devil’s, that’s true, but the other side of it (not even talking about work ethic as he had Ozil) is his tendency to drift to the left hand channel where he’s most comfortable. The players you’ve mentioned didn’t effect the team shape in quite the same way, it becomes lopsided, and as a result we’ve had to use players like Mkhi, Lingard and Mata on the right who have to move inside because of that imbalance.

When Mata played for Chelsea under Mourinho he didn’t do this, nor did he play as often as he has for United, because it wasn’t required from the wide man on the right, hence why he got rid.

I never saw much of Pogba while he was at Juve, but I've seen a fair bit of him at United. He isn't a top midfielder IMHO and I don't see how he ever will be. Maybe in another league.

I've said this before, I wouldn't swap him for the likes of Wij or Hendo.

I’d take him anyway to play that LCM role. He’s got the goals/creativity/physicality that our midfield lacks.

And Klopp’s genius. It’s similar to when Fergie had us competing with, and finishing above, City with an old Scholes and Carrick plus Cleverly and Anderson in midfield.

He's a top player, United's best by a distance and likely would have been great for Chelsea too
(Unless you expect him to be their best CDM, CM and CAM all in one in which case you'd be disappointed)

Pogba is a rich and foolish mans Carlton Palmer.
