Let's geek it out.
What team would you pick for the big one. Frank I'm sure will be working out a team sheet that defies logic but lets have a goose.
Do we go 2 up front and who?
We finally beat the Leeds press by doing this with Bennett clattering and Swing Low shattering?
Would it work against Villa?
................BJ.......................
.....HW......MM.......TL..........
..........SL...........MB..............
I think potentially in my mind it can stop the marauding full backs and us getting penned in deep in our own half. The '3' can be quite fluid with HW, MM and TL playing the pivot. Would require us being more direct. My only fear would be Grealish, McGinn and Hourihane offer more creativity and ball carrying ability than the Leeds midfield three did. BJ and MM might get overrun in the centre of the park at the expense of us solidifying the flanks.
4-2-3-1:
.........Huddz....BJ...........
...HW........MM..........TL..
................SL..................
Finshed off the Leeds game playing this formation with Huddz and BJ holding. As Ang disrespectfully pointed out, we conceded shortly after this, thankfully the Leeds player decided to try and de-leg two of our players and got sent off and this allowed us an extra man.
Frank's suicidal refusal to play the Huddz more regularly might mean he's short of match practice to play this effectively. I think it would shore us up in the centre of the park however at the expense of being able to put pressure on the Villa CB's, play more direct and losing Bizzle's physicality.
It would have the option though of being our most fluid team selection.
Depending on how the game pans out - Huddz dropping deep and it could become 4-3-3 or a 4-4-2 with TL and JM up front. TL obviously not having the physicality of MB though. Is Waggy fit? Waggy instead of JM might help with the physicality side of things or Waggy/MB instead of JM and bring on the destroyer from the subs bench.
4-3-3:
Our default
.................BJ......................
.......DH............MM.............
...HW...JM/MW/MB.......TL..
Would leave us susceptible on the wings, missing a playmaker but plenty of running and attacking potential, I do feel there was a coming of age moment for HW, MM and TL in terms of competing physically against the dirties. Maybe it has legs this version. The other alternative would be the Huddz holding but a big risk given his lack of starting games.
I'm sure Frank will pi55 me off and pick something that makes no footballing sense and win with it but what team would the people-dem choose?
Villa fans can join in too.
Personally I'd be tempted to start with either the 4-2-3-1 then hit them with the 4-1-3-2 or vice versa. 4-3-3 if we're chasing the game. Probably lean towards starting with BJ and Huddz and switching to a 4-4-1-1 if getting overrun.

'Anyone else think Huddz looked even slower than normal when he came on at Leeds, he scraed me to death? They made it 3-2 on the night not long after as well IIRC?'
Don't you read Wellies' posts in full ?
How disrespectful.

Johnson's most useful skill is getting kicked by the opposition and getting their players sent off.

Guess if no in juries straight choice with us Adomah/Green and Whelan/Hourihane rest probably picks itself. Looking forward to it but not sure which way it will go. Remember how piiiisssed off I was after last year but do like the Championship.
I think a lot will depend on the goalkeepers and Abraham who has had a couple of quiet games since being injured.

On another note watching Lge 1 at moment and we are heavily linked with Aribo who looks very useful.

I think we'll line up like this:
..........................Steer........................
Elmo.....Tuanzebe.....Mings.....Taylor
McGinn........Hourihane........Grealish
Adomah...............................El Ghazi
.....................Abraham......................
May be Green or Kodjia over Adomah, that spot is up for grabs. Whelan or Hourihane is another but Hourihane much more likely given his free kick ability and knack of scoring crucial goals.
