BBC are reporting that we have bid £53m for Giovani Lo Celso from Real Betis.

Thoughts?
Anyone know anything about him?
An actual transfer bid

All I'm saying is that Levy's reputation does him more harm than good sometimes.... what goes around comes around. This is a man that will likely want 40mln for Trips and 20mln for Janssen and is already talking 130mln for Eriksen while paying him 70K a week
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And so he should. Doesn't mean he won't accept £25m for Trippier and £100m for Eriksen though. Same goes for Betis. £53m is a significant amount - if other clubs want to bid higher than we re-evaluate but it's certainly not a low ball offer.

On a slight tangent, I was thinking Spurs would struggle to get over £60-70m for Eriksen because he only has a year left on his contract. But supposedly Spurs are going to have to pay £25m for Sessegnon, a completely unproven player who also has only a year left on his contract.
Yes, he has potential, but he's achieved nothing compared to Eriksen who has been at the top level for years. If Sessegnon is going to cost £25m then Eriksen should be AT LEAST three times that.

You never know. Depends how much those teams want Eriksen and if we don't accept for example, he either goes on a free the following year or maybe Barcelona/ Madrid/ Team Z buy a CM anyway this summer and no longer want Eriksen - contract extension after? All guess work.

Last I read (no idea if true) but Fulham wanted 40mln for Sessegnon. If true, you kind of understand Betis wanting 88mln for a 23 year old who lit up La Liga last season, who's just made the the Argie Copa America squad and will have interest from Europe's big heads

Obscene ain't it. £100m might become the going rate for any good player soon. Genuinely makes you wonder when the £1bn mark will be broken. Hopefully that's a long way off, but at the current rate of market acceleration...

Its all gonna happen soon enough.... My overall point is that trying to put Levy valuations, Spurs transfer record to date is all totally irrelevant in this mkt. The stadium build was justified because it will provide sustainability and allow us to compete in an industry where we have been massively left behind in recent years. Operating in today's mkt with today's inflated fees and wages is just another adjustment Levy & Co are gonna have to get used to.
I'm guessing there's probably "real interest" in this kid (being young, Argie, key position for us)..... Ticks a lot of boxes.....Much like Liverpool did with VVD & Alisson.... If you identify the right guys that will make a difference then you pay the price. This is not to be confused with the United strategy of just randomly plssing money up a wall going after other teams targets when they will have no positive impact on what you need as team
If this guy has been identified as the LT successor to Dembele.... Then move heaven & earth to get him... One thing is for certain, the rest of Europe's power houses wont be put off by steep asking prices.... as CL finalists, that's the Company we now find ourselves in. The way the club acts this summer will be a real statement of intent

DL, you've written a load of bollox on this thread. You don't build a stadium to continue with our sustainable growth and then spunk £88m unnecessarily.
This isn't football manager.

I do think other teams will be put off buying him for £88m, for what it's worth
I don't think anyone is disagreeing that Spurs need to spend proper money, but that doesn't mean they have to throw sense out the window. And equally, just because prices are going up and up doesn't mean Spurs have to actively worsen the spiral by overpaying for players.
Hell, even if you believe that the stadium hasn't impacted on the transfer budget, £88m would be a massive chunk of whatever money has been set aside. I think spending such a big percentage of the budget would be a mistake even though I think Lo Celso is a very good player who would fit well.
