Liverpool put the ball in the net twice and that's what counts, we didn't. Dont care about possession stats (most of the % was our back 5 passing it around). But - i honestly think we'll never have a better opportunity to win the CL. Liverpool won, but they were pretty poor, it was a pretty poor game all round. Our players just didn't perform apart from Rose and Verts.
Poch decided to drop Moura and play Kane who was anonymous and never won one battle with VVD. I'd have played Moura and we would have been forced due to his height to play the ball on the ground to give us a chance against Liverpool's defence. The 2-0 scoreline was the result, but some of us may feel it flattered them. If we'd been hammered 5-0 by a cracking Liverpool performance i'd take it easier than a dubious penalty, and a flat poor performance from them, and most of our players. They'll be delighted as a win is what matters. Our midfield is so light with no decent Dembele replacement. Dele should have been dropped. Trippier can clear off. Gutted on several levels. Fantatsic to see the new WHL stadium, but such a shame our team performed and lost in another Spursy manner. Far too slow getting out of defence, no pace, no impetus, just passing it sideways and backwards bulding up % possession with little to no penetration. Give us back Gareth Bale any day please, that's the type of player we are missing. We must bolster midfield creativity and pace, as well as the obvious RB position too.
Accepted defeat, what an opportunity missed

I think it has to be said that Liverpool are just a better team, and that's not me doing us any discredit.
We've played them three times this season and 5 out of 6 halves they've either outplayed us or contained us to protect a lead.
In each game they have took the lead before half time, so I have no doubt that if the penalty wasn't given, the goal would have come anyway before long.
Like I say, no shame. In terms of 'time' they're at least a year ahead of us. We need to take a leaf out of their book in terms of investing in quality in areas we need it the most. If we do, who knows, we could be in a better position next season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Liverpool have not outplayed Spurs since the game at Wembley, where Spurs were understrength. Spurs were the better side yesterday and at Anfield a month or so back, but we are so powderpuff these days. Liverpool were non existent in attack Saturday, never ever threatened Spurs, yet Spurs could not raise their game enough to win. That game was an absolute missed opportunity to win a trophy. Liverpool are basically mugging Spurs these days, and are Spurs are letting them get away with it. Just last season Spurs ripped Liverpool to pieces at Wembley 4-1, and the teams have not changed that much. It is all in the head. Spurs have such a weak mentality.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Considering we never ever threatened, we still managed to stick the ball in the onion bag twice; and, by my basic maths, that’s still 2 more times than your team.
The fact is, we didn’t have to play well to beat you comfortably, we coasted through that game and you never looked like scoring. No wonder you’re hurting π

I thought half term was over!?

Not wrong though am I? And it doesn’t take anything more than a child to school the likes of Sandy.

Agree with the OP apart from Bale. He is not what we need - he would become a weight round our necks.
We clearly need one or two top class players capable of making a difference, and pushing the current lot to perform consistently.

In fact Spurs v Ajax as 51% 49% possession
Ajax v Spurs was 40% 60% possession.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Agreed Ajax were the better of the teams first halves of both games, Spurs were the better of the teams second halves.

Liverpool starting XI when you beat us 4-1:
Mignolet
Gomes
Lovren
Matip
Moreno
Can
Henderson
Milner
Coutinho
Firminho
Salah.
Only 4 of those players started the CL final; but other than that, practically the same team π

What did you and your dad think of the stadium, North?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Fabulous experience visiting the new Stadium, cracking day out for my Dad who flew over to attend the live screening at WHL. The place was packed full. Stadium is amazing, I’d love to be a season ticket holder and watch Spurs play there every fortnight. Thanks to MK we had brilliant seats in East Stand. We have the stadium, now we need to bolster midfield and right back.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ran out of beer though
Glad you both had a great time regardless of the result. Hope you were there early enough for some of the street scenes. Was a great atmosphere.

*** We were lucky to get there in the first place! And so were Pool. It takes luck, no matter how good you are. About getting to the CL final again, you're right.
Liverpool won, but they were pretty poor, it was a pretty poor game all round. Our players just didn't perform apart from Rose and Verts.
**** Agree. I would mention Sissoko too, penalty aside!

**** I do not think for one moment that starting Kane was Pochettino's decision. It was obvious that he was not match fit and that Moura should start. I think Kane has power within the club hierarchy, being the Marquee player that he is. And he wanted to start and thought he was "ready", which he wasn't. VVD owned Kane all night.

*** right. When the penalty went in I thought we were in for a 0-4 drubbing. But they were as poor as we were.

**** very annoying that backwards stuff. Must credit Rose, and Sissoko and Son with trying to go forward.

*** Yes, but not Bale. He's past it now. Someone like him, 10 years younger.

*** We are at a crossroads. Either Levy is going to do a lot of trading, and start early, or POchettino is going to leave.
And BTW, I give Pochettino a 10/10 for what he has done for our club!

I'll say one other thing......
Ajax v Liverpool would have been a better match.....
and I think Ajax would have had a better chance of beating them than we did.
Too bad for Ajax that we won in Amsterdam - hind sight
