Media Watch: City linked with new centre-back

A rumour linking Manchester City with a new defender is the top story in Wednesday’s edition of Media Watch.

The Premier League champions are in the headlines for several reasons and there’s also a wide-ranging interview with Raheem Sterling, news from one of our loanees and Women’s World Cup reaction.
Transfer gossip is how we’ll start, however, with the Manchester Evening News reporting that City have an interest in Bournemouth’s Nathan Ake.
Writes Daniel Murphy: “It appears that City's number one target is Harry Maguire of Leicester City, who today rejected a £70million bid for the centre-back from neighbours Manchester United.
“City are interested but are yet to lodge a bid themselves and know full well from their pursuit of Riyad Mahrez last summer that the Foxes are stubborn negotiators.
“They may instead sought after a cheaper alternative and, according to French newspaper L'Equipe, it could be Bournemouth's Ake.
“It's claimed that Ake 'who has been courted in the transfer market, is likely to sign on with Manchester City this summer.'"
Elsewhere, Sterling is the cover star of the latest edition of GQ, for whom he has sat down for an in-depth chat with Alistair Campbell.
A host of topics are covered, with Sterling discussing life on and off the pitch.

The winger also provides an insight into working with Pep Guardiola, saying: “He’s demanding, but it’s good.
“It makes you want to do better and – I don’t know how to explain this – makes you want to prove to him and show him every time you go on the field you’re playing for your position in his team, because of the numbers we have and the quality we have as well."
Unsurprisingly, there is plenty of reaction to England’s semi-final heartbreak, after a 2-1 defeat to the United States at the Women’s World Cup.

City’s Ellen White was the Lionesses goal scorer and has been singled out in the Telegraph for her performances across the whole tournament.
Writes Luke Edwards: “Ellen White does not know what she has done yet, the emotions are too raw, the eyes too blurred and puffy with tears to see what she has become.
“It offers no comfort now, but White’s world has changed forever. She has been one of the stars of this World Cup, she will be one of the breakout names, a person who people talk about beyond her sport."
City youngster, Matt Smith, agreed a season-long loan to QPR earlier this week and has revealed why he chose the west London outfit.
Speaking to their official website, he said: “The young team that the gaffer wants, the aggressive team that he wants and also the way that he wants to play football was big for me.
“Having grown up at City, that is what they instil into you as a young boy.
“I had one conversation with the gaffer and it was obvious that this was exactly what I wanted from my second loan move."
