I had hoped Chong might solve the right wing but im not sure hes our guy. He found/ran into spaces in the first half. James had a brilliant first half on the left but even last season most of our attack came from the left which makes us predictable. Greenwood was quite good on the right in the second half but hes a striker who shouldnt have to fill that position. Man city have Sterling on the left and Silva on the right which makes them dangerous on the attack.
If we had limited funds i would prioritise a top right winger and maybe get alderweireld rather than spend £80 mill on Maguire. Hopefully Tuanzebe will have a good pre season campaign
Prioritise right winger?

Chong has looked awful every time he has been in the First team
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He doesn’t look anywhere near ready for first team football tbh, he either needs to stay in the youth team or go out on loan in the EFL.

Greenwood is dangerous cutting in off the right. He has often looked for space wide right when playing up top alone for the U18s and Reserves because he can punish defences starting from that area.
He isn’t going to get games for us up top yet, so his cameos will come there.
And Chong hasn’t looked “awful” every time he’s played for the seniors, hippo. He didn’t look awful on his debut and he didn’t look awful today.
You’re honestly more hyperbolic than stretty ever was nowadays.

Our team is far too focused attacking down the left hand side and why we have never signed a decent specialist right winger over the past few seasons totally baffles me.
I thought the initial success Ole had was by using the full width of the pitch Dalot shows when he plays right wing it doesn’t have to be at Ronaldo level but it gives the opposition a whole lot more to think about and more space down the middle for the strikers to run in to, Ole however reverted to type and allowed the likes of Lingard to become undisciplined and just chase the ball into the left hand side clogging our attacks up, Pep would go ballistic with this type of play as he keeps the pitch positions as big as possible to stretch the opposition.
I really wonder about football managers at times getting paid 10 million plus a year and not seeing the obvious even when the likes of Pep and Klopp demonstrate it to them every week.

It’s not about letting the likes of Lingard be “undisciplined”.
It’s a tactical approach we’ve purposefully used under the last three managers to overload and attack predominantly from the left hand side.
I’ve explained previously that Mata and Lingard don’t play as right wingers when they’re selected (nominally) on the right side of the attack. They play as inside forwards deeper and closer to a number ten role.

And there in lies the issue. We just look so congested in the centre and it’s easy to defend against. Look at the city wingers. Sane, Silva, Sterling, Mahrez when they play. They are hogging the touchline making the pitch as big as possible thus creating space. Liverpool maybe not so much but they have two very good attacking fullbacks.
We need a right winger desperately imo, in fact CM then right winger in that order of importance imo.

Seems to everybody wants to be a no.10 as it’s a position totally devoid of responsibility which suits a physically challenged player like Lingard.
The system we use just denies our own players space which is why they all look better playing at international level than for us even Lukaku, other comments on here are spot on that Pep and Klopp use both flanks and the whole pitch to stretch out opposition, we don’t use the potential of our squad at all just the same dumb attack and cross every time combined with the lowest work rate in the prem, for a club of our world standing the dross we have played the past five years is tragic

Yes he has.
Seriously, you are really deluding yourself about our players. We finished 6th ffs. Our squad is a total shambles. Filled with dross.
And when chong has come on, he has looked far and away the worst player on the team. A clear level below.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I’m not deluding myself about anything.
No team that finishes in sixth place in the most challenging and competitive league in world football has a squad that is a “total shambles” or is “filled with dross”.
You’re talking utter nonsense.
If our squad is “filled with dross”, what is Huddersfield’s squad? What is Leyton Orient’s? What is Guiseley Town’s?

And Chong made his debut against Reading in the cup.
He came on at 2-0 up and had two or three great moments without seeing much of the ball.
The same game, Young stunk the place up on and off the ball in both halves of the field, McTominay looked completely ineffective and tired, and Sanchez ran around like a headless chicken findings no space at all, then when he did receive the ball gave it away repeatedly trying to hang on to it too long. He then went off injured.
I will bet you a stake of your choosing that you will not find one sincere pundit - professional or otherwise - anywhere in the world that will agree with your latest ridiculous claim.

How is the number ten role devoid of responsibility? That’s one of the strangest comments I’ve read on here in a long time.
The approaches we’ve used have been selected by the coaching staffs of the last three managers. You can agree with them or otherwise, but don’t blame the players for following instructions.
