If reports are true and we've rejected 20 million from palace this makes you think Frank must be a fan. It's a shame he's not going to have a pre season to show what he's about but the fact we want to keep him is great news in my opinion, the sooner we can get him in the first team the better, huge talent.

I read this yesterday and my immediate thought was, why would we sell him in the current climate for such a paltry sum?
He has the potential to be better than AWB in my opinion and he's just gone for 50m.
The best prospect from the academy as far as I'm concerned, I won't be suprised to see him dislodge Dave after this season.
Palace just chancing their arm!

It wouldn't be the first stupid decision we've made to let talented players leave. I'm really hoping he can be in the side before the end of the season . I think azpilicueta really holds our play back

But we have never before been in a position of not being allowed to recruit from outside and being left with no choice to blood younger players.
There has never been a better time for players like James to make an impression on the 1st team squad.
It seem the stars are aligning at the right time for him!!

Well apart from his injury that is!

Injuries seem to be hampering our most promising youngsters/breakthrough players atm - RLC, CHO & RJ
I'm hoping RJ can be fit soon because as you mentioned Azpi isn't the best at going forward. RJ has the perfect person to learn from in Azpi though in terms of work ethic, defensive awareness etc so no chance we let him go and especially for that sum

He won't leave this summer. The choice was always gunna be James or Aina and the club made it weeks ago selling the latter. This never had legs.

Yes, those injuries all came at at the end of the season for those youngsters - I wonder if that was a coincidence? RLC has had a few injuries, and some players are just injury prone - but it does suggest that we have to be careful with the younger players coming through.
But I agree with all the other comments - it was obvious that we would turn down an offer for James. He seems destined to take over from Azpi - and I suspect Zappacosta's days are numbered once James is fit again.

Never in doubt that we would entertain selling him
