Town v Orient Match Thread

This Saturday brings Layton Orient to the Galpharm fresh from their impressive performance away at Blackburn Rovers in the Carling Cup this week. Russel Slade will be getting the O's up for what should be an entertaining game which hopefully will involve a few goals (for Town ofcourse!!).

Orient are currently bottom of League 1 and so they rapidly need to turn their season around and will hope Saturday is the day to do it. Town will be a little disappointed not to have taken all 3 points from MK Dons and ready to continue the positive attacking football they have over the last couple of games.

The most recent encounter between these two sides was in February 2011, where the two teams cancelled each other out in a 2-2 draw.

Town would therefore look to be favourites but as they say, football is a funny old game and you never know what will happen.
Team News

I think Clarke will keep warming the bench as McCoombe and Kay seem to be the right pairing at the back at the moment and hopefully Robinson can play alongside Johnson to solidify the midfield.

My team would be..........

...................Bennett.............
Hunt....McCombe...Kay....Woods
Arfield.....Robinson....Johnson.... Ward
................Lee.....Novak..............

Not sure on any injuries to Layton Orient players but I would assume they would play the same team that did well for them mid week but without Tom Clarke obviously.

...................Butcher ..............
.. Omozusi.... Chorley... Forbes... Daniels
..Cox.......Porter...Laird.....Spring.....Smith
..................... Mooney

Orient's number 4 who scored the goal was excellent all afternoon.

Guys. MK Dons fan in piece!
Can anyone shed some light on the diffrence between your guy getting sent off on an off the ball incident and our McKenzie against you lot that resulted in a penalty?
Whats was the difference? Why didn't the ref award a penalty against you yesterday?
The ball was in play on both occasions but not related to the incidents...
Cheers...

That's the way i saw it as well MK but the ref said it happened before the corner was taken. Bit of a cop out if you ask me. Last week there was no doubt that the ball was in play.

They scored from the corner btw so a penalty would have been a better result!

Hmmmm... OK... Another strange thing was that our keeper immediatly threw the ball out to the left wingback before McKenzie butted your man so in my eyes the ball was in play but outside the area!!
Just another dodgy League 1 ref again.. We were robbed of 2 penalties yesterday too due to another crap ref.
Cheers Boothy... You guys have still gotta get rid of those draws as they are killing you..

Ball could have been in the other box, still a penalty if it's in play. Can't pretend i wasn't screaming for the penalty last week as soon as i saw it.

We once had a dopey keeper (Rachubka) who had the ball in his hands and pushed the striker giving away a penalty. Not the cleverest these footballers.

You're right about the draws mate, i'd happily lose our unbeaten run for some more wins.

We'd have been better off with a penalty given yesterday. Bennett wasn't at his best but he would have saved the spot kick

maybe not dropping right off after we had scored the second(and making the game safe!!!) goal was not the right option???

giving away stupid corners is one of our fortes...we are also excellent at spotting teams with a long throw expert and we always give away daft throw ins to allow us to defend heroically in our own 6 yard area..

at 2-0 up you dont drop back and you dont give any side, especially a rock bottom one, the opportunity to make a chance.. a good side, one with some confidence would have gone on and won by more yesterday.. orient would not have been in our penalty area to start with..

wasn't at the game, but reading the comments 2 things strike me...

firstly the players seem to struggle to raise their game against unfancied opposition..the phrase 'big time charlies' comes to mind.

second. As this was a repeat of last years game against a better orient side, is this an indication that LC has now peaked, ie he has reached the height of his abilities and we can/will not get any better than we are/were ?

back to my deckchair and glass of vin rouge..

I don't think we will finish in top 2 . The lg is a lot tighter than last season . Just look how we fell frm 3rd to 8 . A lot of teams are going to stick around this time , I think there will be at least 8 teams who can get top 2 with 5 games to play , town will finish about 5 this time .
