Doom and Gloom, Realist or a Fool

As the season draws ever closer I start to worry about this season. I don't remember a pre season that's been so underwhelming since the N Clough days

With the current squad we have, IMO, were looking very ordinary at best, add to that the injury list and tough start to the season I can only see a very poor start

I understand some of the comments MM has made but when he mentioned using the youth players and staying competitive I expected a little more in the transfer market as at the moment it looks like were heavily reliant on the youth for this season.

It was also mentioned that he doesn't want to block the path of a youth player to the first team. This seems a very dangerous plan to me. How much long term planning is involved in this? I understand Sibley is probably the most brightest talent in the youth set up but he's 17 and probably wont be ready for a regular start in the first team for 2/3 years, Bogle last season should be treated as an exception not the norm IMO

Where are the goals coming from this season? Derby scored 69 last season with all who finished above scoring more/ If you try and divvy them up between the current players I come up way short of that number

I fear a relegation battle this season, does that make me a doom and gloom merchant, a realist or a fool?

Re. Marriott we've never seen him lead the line with all three of the central midfield players behind him being able to pass a ball.

We'll be breaking lines and scoring goals

I'm somewhat surprised by your pessimism, VC.
I thought you'd be the type to believe in sunlit uplands.and the Golden Age of Cocu ?

Some fans really do have a gloomy outlook about our club. Not only on here but on other sites too, assuming we'll be in a relegation battle. Odd.

Two signings later and those same fans will be rejoicing!

I think it'll be a combo of some great wins and horrible losses, the results after Xmas is when we'll all be ready with the razor blades. Overall we might finish just outside play offs.

A work colleague informed me earlier that bookies have Luton to finish around 8th!!!!!! This must be before 'Buttercup' joined the club.

I think we'll prolly still struggle with the offensive or defensive press from the oppo and let in a few goals from set pieces. If these rumoured players come in though n we can get one striker and a winger firing. The season is ours.

Dunno where the pessimism has come from, when we got Cocu everyone was as happy as Lucy then we lost to Rangers and we're relegation certs.

Slow start complete with the odd bit of sideways passing and they'll be lining up on top of High Tor ... or maybe outside The Standing Order at 8.00am

I'm a gloomster and a doomster.

Actually I'm a realist, if we sign 3 good players I will be more optimistic, but with the names currently I'm worried.

I would be a lot more worried if I were a Forest supporter, they look like getting relegated and will be lucky to get 11 points.

Let's face it, if Derby had employed Farke in 2017 and it was up to the fans, he'd never have made it to the end of his first year and they'd still be in the Champ.
That said, I saw them being given a footballing lesson by Gian Piero Gasperini's Atalanta last night. Perhaps he won't make it thro this season ?

What will it take for the doomsters to demand King Phillip's head on a plate?

Could they handle a year of 20th ish in the Championship?

I'll get a bit miffed if we just try and do the defensive Karanka-esque tippy tappy and only try 3 attacks per game thing other than that my patience is up to Nigel Clough levels, a significant improvement from the days of Nigel Pearson.

It's a very good point Anglian Ram, Derby fans would have probably hounded him out. I did think after season one he was a dead man standing at Carrow Road.

I think it is incredibly frustrating that every season becomes a 'transitional period' because of the annual managerial change. Hopefully with Cocu given a four year deal that it's very unlikely he will be sacked early and that we don't have a PL or European club sniffing after season one. Club is desperate for some stability now and get these Academy players developed...….so that they can be sold to Premiership clubs for £20 million+ instead of being released on free transfers to be found playing in the Isthmian League and we read about it in an article in DET.
