Today a lot of curiosity will be on display. Unfortunately Bielik is not available we can’t yet see how Cocu intends the score our goals. Swansea will prove to be a hard nut. But crack it we must and the team started reasonably well but so did Swansea. Unfortunately we couldn’t crack the goal scoring trick in spite of our bright start and we controlled midfield pretty well though Swansea too looked sharp and capable in midfield. After about 30 minutes of stalemate Bogle won the ball and broke quickly down the right and crossed superbly for Waghorn to volley a couple of feet wide of Woodman’s left post. The game proceeded with neither side really threatening to score until just before Half-time Derby were, deservedly or not, awarded a penalty. Up stepped Martyn Waghorn to hit a firm shot which Woodman anticipated to put it round the post for a corner, He hit it low and low shots are always saveable if the goalie guesses right. All through the half, Derby had been profligate with a number of crosses in promising situations. 4 or 5 times the crosses were grossly overhit. More precision would have surely led to good scoring chances. Swansea adopted the age old tactic of time wasting only to see 7 minutes added at the end. Still Derby couldn’t capitalise and Swansea almost took the points with a couple of shots from distance. Roos made some good saves and was, if anything the busier goalkeeper. Even so Woodman saved the penalty and made an important double save in the second to keep the point.
The ref was a bid odd to say the least. Roos played well and Keogh was MOTM - deservedly so. Clarke is a good acquisition and should partner well with the skipper. Malone showed his faults for all to see though he was energetic at times. Bogle as usual did very well but got an injury of unknown severity. Dowell showed promise as did Paterson - I think he will be a very useful addition to the squad and could well become a fixture in the team. Lawrence was more like his enigmatic self. Unfortunately.
Derby players have not yet got to know each other and Cocu has not found his best formation. We will get there I hope and believe.

Another Gary Rowett tragedy maybe. Moral, don't leave Derby of your own accord.

Windy day, swirling wind, not a good day to judge corners and crosses.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Their players judged the ‘wind’ and the flight of the ball perfectly Spart. Most of the time there wasn’t a white shirt within 10yds o the ball. Awful, simple as.
We’re you there out of interest?

I was sat in the East stand, virtually on the half way line Baz. Looking at where I might move to. Where I was, at the North east end of the East stand meant if play was in the SW corner it was hard to make out what was happening sometimes.

Anyway, our first cup run begins tomorrow. Always enjoyable and the annual opportunity for Spart and Vidal to explain momentum

Every year I think I’ve finally understood it, then it drifts away, like millions of tiny grains of momentum slipping between my fingers never to be seen again.

All I remember is that :- Momentum before = Momentum after. P is the usual symbol for momentum and P = mass x velocity in units of kilogram meters/sec.(Si units) I don't get the tiny grains bit and in my youthful irrationality I always felt momentum was a quantity to be feared, I suppose because it was envisaged in the form of a collision of fast moving heavy objects. I am thinking of linear momentum. Angular momentum is different. There are two types of angular momentum - Momentum due to rotation about a body's axis and orbital momentum.
But who knows - it might mean the progress of success in sporting activities. I just hope it falls down when it comes to test matches - starting on Thursday

Ramdini, it’s just a running joke. I irritate Spart by making stupid comments about momentum, and he rises to the bait. It began when somebody innocently mentioned the need for the team to build momentum. They soon lived to regret their mistake.
