So I got into an argument on the Guardian comments section today with someone who was really upset that I had disrespected Arsenal and "one of the greatest achievements of all time" (his words). I had simply stated that I felt that Man City's recent domestic treble season was a better achievement than Arsenal's invincible season.
My logic was that gaining 98 points, winning 3 trophies (inc league) and losing 6 games from 60 in all comps is better than gaining 90 points, winning 1 trophy and losing 6 games from 58 in all comps. I stand by this.
It did however, get me thinking about where I would rank the invincible season. It seems obvious that winning the league undefeated is better just winning the league (although there could be debate that gaining 100 points eith some defeats is better than gaining 90 with no defeats) but how high would it go.
The "worst" double (major trophies only, must include league or CL) is the league and league cup. Would you rather an unbeaten league title or a league title and a league cup? Next is the classic double of league and fa cup.
Basically what I want to know is how high would you rank winning the PL unbeaten when compared to winning it with at least one other major trophy?
Settle a question

It's a unique and incredible acheivement rather than proof the team was up there with the best sides of all time - over the season the "invincibles" weren't a historically outstanding side.
In fact we, Arsenal, have arguably had better sides than that. City certainly have, again arguably Chelsea, United and Liverpool have as well but the acheivement is still huge.
United's trebel side wasn't their best but they acheived the most.
This City side are unbelievably good in the League but it's very much a tale of buying success rather than some sort of almost miraculous acheivement which Uniteds youth based side winning the treble was and Leicesters league win. I'd wager both of those campaigns along with the Arsenal unbeaten season will live far longer in the memory because they're far bigger achievements when taken in context.

Oooooo good debate. For me it goes on this order:
1. Man Utd Treble
2. Man City Treble
3. Arsenal invincibles
Now, you could argue that Man City’s current team are better than the Utd one and I’d agree with you. But the achievement of the greatest prize in the domestic game AND the greatest prize in Europe tops the domestic treble as an achievement.
With regards to the invincibles, Liverpool could have gone the whole of last season unbeaten and won nothing (incredible but true). So yes it was incredible, but it’s about trophy’s in this game, not statistics.
Again, good discussion though and I can understand other’s views.

Hard to compare, both are great achievements. I think I would just go with the unbeaten as I think it's only been done once before, and a long time ago.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
To me it isn't hard to compare. City's domestic treble is far superior to a league unbeaten season.
It just is.
In my mind there isn't even a debate to be had.

Exactly, I am not even sure what the debate is about.
