Emery is an idiot!!
Lacazette is a bigger game player than Auba.
Willock over Torreira is stupidly insane.
Playing a narrow diamond and letting Pool have the ball as they wanted was suicidal.
Proper lack of tactics in big games and stupidly playing NOT your best team.
Stupid stupid formation and personnel

Emery is far too negative how has it taken 10 minutes until the end to bring on Lacazette. The whole idea is to build the team around the front three. Having said that we could of been leading in the first half, got to take chances when they come by.

If you started like this it would be 5-1.
Blame tactics but:
Goal from corner = bad defending
Goal from penalty = bad defending
Goal from solo run = bad defending / good opposition
Your tactics blunted Liverpool until your defenders got sloppy. You just don't have the players.

Can't disagree with most of this. I wil disagee with the diamond comment as I think it worked well on the whole. It was the reason why we had a few chances

Emery does this evey away game
I said last season that Emery constant tinkering with formations and subs is going to hurt us
Since when have we played a diamond formation before
Willock, Guendouzi and Xhaka in Mf
Seriously

I will repeat again Auba has 1 goal from open play in 14 league games against the big 6

Every goal.is down to poor defending of sorts. The issue was that we invited pressure right off the bat. We barely could catch a breath defensively. And eventually we caved. The penalty was a brain fat. I will give you that. But it's very rare a team can concede possession and try play so negatively and still get a result. Eventually physical and mental fatigue sets in.

I also don't understand the obsession with Guendouzi playing games like this. He can't defend very well and provides nothing going forward.

It’s also very rare to get a result playing an open expansive system against a superior attacking team who are great on the break.

It's a balance. Tight at the back but with a plan in regards to what to do with the ball when we had it. We went long a couple of times and could have scored. But it does not seem like that was the consistent tactic going forward. We have pace but barely utilized it. I am not advocating going to to toe with Pool, but a better formation, players better suited to pressing and beating the press would have given us more of a chance. If we had lost by doing that, then yeah...that's fine. This was annoying because you saw the breakaways we had with Auba and Pepe...and even though they did not score, we should have tried it more. If anything, it may have forced them to play a bit deeper and thus relieve some pressure. I have not seen a long time a team that had the freedom of 2/3rds of a pitch like Pool did today.

Tactics to blame.
You could still have played a diamond but Pepe and Auba should have played against Trent and Robbo. This could have stopped our fullbacks pushing up. Ceballos or Laca could have played between our cb's to stop our build up.
To play Pepe and Auba against our cb's resulted in your wide midfielders defending against our fullbacks.
You lack also the high energy in midfield of players like Hendo and Gini.
