Media Watch: Legends discuss City chances
City are a topic of conversation for the great and the good of football in Thursday morning’s newspapers.
England legend Paul Gascoigne and World Cup winner Rivaldo have both reflected on the reigning champions chances this season.
The Brazilian, a former Barcelona team-mate of Pep Guardiola, believes City should focus on chasing success in Europe, while Gazza is confident we can retain our domestic crown again.
So, let’s see what they had to say…
Opinion
Manchester Evening News: Paul Gascoigne predicts City Premier League finish
“City have got players to replace every position on the field. Tottenham don't. Mauricio Pochettino needs to buy again in the next window and get a couple of players in.
“Liverpool are looking strong as well but I cannot see anyone stopping Man City. They are just going to keep on buying and it's quite scary.
"I think it will be Man City, Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester United (in the top four). I think Arsenal are playing good football as well."
Manchester Evening News: Rivaldo explains what competition City should prioritise
“I think Pep Guardiola is in a similar situation to Valverde at Barcelona, dominating domestic competitions but failing in the Champions League, so perhaps it's time to focus more on European football.
“The Premier League is the best league in the world and the way Liverpool and Man City are playing obviously puts them among the favourites in the Champions League but it would be a big battle with other strong contenders from Italy, Spain and Germany."
