Now that the dust is settling.

I see that FV are/Have held a meeting with the staff at the club. They apparently took a good selection of cakes with them to the meeting. I think that is a small but great gesture that only a woman could bring to a meeting and I'm pleased that we have two who are in the driving seat along with Mike James.

Regarding Mike James, I think that most of us realise that he has been a driving force in saving the club. Without him and the unselfish contribution of the Eddie Davis Trust, we may not be in business today. So a very big thank you to both. They have been our saviors.

Now that the dust is just about settling and FV are just starting to get the 150 members of staff a little bit more settled and informed of the plans they have for the club, I wonder what your hopes and aspirations are for the future of our club.

Personally I think that we will have a period of adjustment.

1. We are back in league one.

2. We don't yet have a squad capable of staying in the league.

3. We don't know yet what kind of budget our new owners have to spend on players, wages and outgoing expenditure for keeping the club running smoothly.

4. We have Jimmy Phillips as manager. Will he be given the chance to make his mark on the team that will undoubtedly contain a few of the youngsters who have pulled their tripe out to get us through the games that we have already played. He knows them all and he could prove to be a great asset as a manager, or will FV go for an established manager and if so who is available?

I imagine that there are quite a few managers who would be proud to manage our club but as it's unlikely to be a manager who would cost the club a reasonable price to bring in, would the club be able to afford to do that?

Dean Holdsworth is available and also Kevin Nolan. Maybe a few others but would they be any better than Jimmy Philips?
That is the $1,000,000 question and I don't think any of us knows the answer, however, you may have different ideas.

Feel free to add your thoughts on what you think our future may be and what you would like to see happen. Will we ever be a Premiership side again or are we destined to remain a lower league club? We have the infrastructure, to do well but as someone once said: "Football is a funny old game".

A bit disappointing that there is only one new to go onto the team sheet but being realistic, FV haven't had the luxury of time. One is better than none.

Jimmy let slip we are allowed 12 more signings. Adding the 11 pros we already have that's the same 23 limit we had last time in embargo.

Rumours are that Jem Karacan (he of last league 1 campaign fame) is training with a view to signing.

To anyone making the Gillingham trip - have a good day out, we still have summer here in the sarfeast. See if you can find some time to look around Rochester - historic riverside town and nice pre-match food and pint options there. Gillingham is a proper traditional football ground, right in among the houses with terraced streets ending at the stadium wall - reminds me a little bit of the Lever End at Burnden Park.

Going down, staying in Gillingham but going on train to Margate after the match, last train back.

It looks as if you guys who are making the trip to Gillingham have your itinerary all done and dusted. Have a great day.

So Monday is as big a day as we have had on the last day of any transfer windows that I can remember. I just hope that the players that we are able to sign are of the right caliber to get us out of the hole that we are finally escaping from.

I know we need quantity but numbers are not much use if we don't have the quality. It's going to be very hard to fill our squad with new talent that will fit in straight away, which is what we desperately need.
