Not looking good for Drinkwater - injured his ankle after being thrown out of a nightclub for being drunk, and then being beaten up by a gang of thugs.

Why is everyone saying they are thugs? They were a bunch of blokes who were giving him a kicking for trying it on with their mates bird even after he was told she had a boyfriend.
Deserves everything he got

So violence is acceptable then?

Not really no but if one of my mates birds was getting chatted up in front of him and the guy wouldn't stop after being warned then he deserves a kicking. being polite gets you nowhere.

I didn’t hear what he did to cause the problem - but whatever he did violence is not the answer. He probably shouldn’t have been in the nightclub anyway, but even if he was behaving like a d!ck it is still not ok for a gang of people to beat him up. I’ve never been to Burnley - maybe that is considered acceptable there.

"so violence is acceptable then?"
"Not really no but....then he deserves a kicking"
in the same sentence.

Not against a good tear up by any means but jumping all over his ankles shouting 'break his legs' cos they knew he was a footballer seems a bit OTT.

He was chatting up another players bird. He got told to leave it many times and didn't. He was taken outside and dealt with.

He got kicked out of the club, problem solved. No need for violence

It sounds like you're still living in the 1970's when behaviour like that was (perhaps) considered acceptable. I'm not even defending Drinkwater - I'm just saying that violence is not the answer to this - or anything. Ever. Do you even read what you write? You say "He was chatting up another players bird" as if that somehow justifies punching people. First of all - women (or "birds" as you call them) are not pieces of chattel. This woman, presumably, is an independent person who is not owned by any other person - and is able to decide for herself who she does and does not want to talk to. If a drunk man (in this case Drinkwater) was harassing her, he should have been removed from the club - which it sounds like he was. That's how you "deal" with a situation like that. Unfortunately, neanderthal thugs (the people you are supporting in this case) somehow felt it was their right as "men" to then "deal" with the situation themselves - which it was not. I hope they get arrested and punished appropriately. Unfortunately there are still too many people like this who go to football games - the sooner we get rid of them from our grounds entirely, the better and safer the game will be.
