A thoroughly enjoyable game to watch. Ended nil nil but Dortmund should have won it based on great chances created. Some bad misses from Reus (including a missed penalty).
The thing that caught my eye was how pleasing a game to watch it was. It made me realize just how turgid and ponderous we look in possession. And even worse without the ball. The speed of passing, running at defenders, playing out of a press...we can only dream of that. And looking at how quickly players got back to stop counterattacks - I only wish our players showed that kind of energy. The discipline and knowing where everyone needed to be and the role they played...It's gonna take a LOT to have us anywhere near these teams.
Dortmund vs Barcelona vs .....us

We have no dynasim in MF. Guendouzi, Xhaka and Torreira must be the slowest MF in the league.
Midfield has been a curse now for many many years

It's been a curse since Cazorla agot injured. He and Coquelin were superb as a pair. But Wenger had to tinker and Coquelin became like Song..playing higher and less defensively.
I'd love for Torreira and Cabellos to own the two spots in deep midfield - game in, game out. Let them form a partnership and get familiar with their roles there. Have Torreira focus on defensive duties instead of being in the penalty area taking a shot versus Watford lol. Have them protect that defence.
I think people have it wrong about our defense (unpopular opinion). The reason we make mistakes at the back is because we are left with absolutely minimal cover from the midfield. Pepe and Auba when on the wings offer NOTHING coming back. This means CMs have to go wide to help or it becomes and overload. If they go wide, then the centre becomes open. It's such an issue. And I have no idea how Emery will solve that.
Again..watching the game last night, it was like night and day. Seeing a well drilled team...and we are talking players who have won it all putting in a shift..was a tad depressing. I'd love to see us play like Dortmund do atm.

The cazorla problem was more injuries than tinkering

Completely agree. The problem lies in MF. The defence is constantly being subjected to onslaught after onslaught
