What's wrong with Wolves this year?

They don't seem to be at it. What's up with them?

Jose wanted Willian, which says it all. He's past it.

The curse of finishing 7th, getting European football with a small squad (Everton two years ago and Burnley last year). All three sides who finished 7th that year were just solid at the time. Think Same will happen next season for the team who finishes 7th this season (and get europa league)

The impression I got from Nuno was that he was pretty one-dimensional and got worked out after a while. Sounds like it could be similar again.

I fear this may not be too far from the truth, he is certainly a very rigid, defensive manager and when you set up that way it doesn't take much for it all to go wrong. Laughable that anyone could compare us to Burnley though and shows how little some folk know about the game.

Talk of top six was ridiculous once we had seen what the summers business was, we had a chance to kick on and didn't add the players and now our squad is being exposed with the extra games. We don't have an attacking option in midfield outside of two untested youngsters in MGW and Neto to change a game and that just doesn't cut it at the top table.

We won't be getting relegated but this season will be quite a come down after last years efforts. Before it began i was happy if we made say the last 16 of the EL and maybe last 8 with a favourable draw and somewhere between 8th and 12th in the league.

To be fair i don't think my hopes are going to be that far away but i am a little concerned with how negative we are becoming

Actually Cinci, my post ought to have read "The impression I got from Nuno AT VALENCIA..."

I can't say what it's been like at Wolves. At Valencia they'd sit very tight and counter very well - so well that I remember that in his first season they had an outrageously high shot-to-goal ratio.

Iirc, the second season was when they ran into trouble, because increased expectations and more savvy opponents meant they were forced to take the initiative a lot more. That's when Nuno was found badly wanting.

I don't know if past experience will have taught him anything, or if he doesn't have the nous or flexibility to switch the style around, either according to what's in front of him or to make Wolves a more attacking side outright.

Yep, that is very similar. Frustrating to have such good players and ask them to play so negatively

It was obvious this was coming, Wolves weren’t ever as good as many made them out to be.

Yeah agree with this. Chelsea lost and drew to wolves last year despite completely outplaying them. Tactics worked but in a plucky underdog way, they could never maintain that especially as favourites of most matches, they will be the ones who need to break teams down rather than counter

We couldn't break teams down that sat deep against us last year, hence the results against Huddersfield among the other fodder and then did nothing to address that in the transfer window.

Just be grateful we aren't around to give you your customary two defeats this season. Luckily for you we've now got far smaller fish to get slapped about by

Playing the type of football you play when you're trying to avoid relegation makes it hard to move up in the world

I really don't like our style of football at all, it was effective for a while but i would much rather see us control games than hope we can pick of teams with 30% of the ball.

I reckon that bald bloke at City could sort you out.
