Spurs are a prime example

of the reason why, when you have a team that are capable of winning trophies you need to buy players to freshen the squad.

The three transfer windows that resulted in no players being
bought are coming back to haunt Spurs.

You can blame the manager all you want, but things can change
really quickly when you don't freshen up a squad.

Those missed opportunities could come back to haunt Spurs for
years to come

I said it for years. Guess I was right all along

We wasted our chance. This squad is over. Need to move on.

Not a Spurs fan,but even so if it's one player in 3 transfer windows, then all the players that aren't threatened by that incoming player coming in generally know their standing within the club barring any massive influx from the youth team.

Complacency can easily set in.When Dembele, verts and alderweireld where in their prime 3 seasons ago then Spurs should have strengthened.

Missed the chance to be a major player by not strengthening when you were on the up

This is a load of nonsense. Since Poch has been in charge of Spurs, Chelsea's balance sheet is a tiny 7m euros more. And in that time Chelsea have won the league twice, Europa, FA Cup and League cup.

are you sure that's accurate?

Is that referring only to transfers? I find it hard to believe you've recouped €759m in that time

We absolutely should have tried pushing the boat out sooner. Should have done it the season after we came so close against Leicester or even the Jan during that season and we may have won something. The club's ambition has not met that of Poch and the players who want to achieve the big silverware, whereas the club/board have happily settled for a slow build up to establishing top 4, and we've paid the price of coming so close and yet so far. We've spent a bit of money now but in true Levy fashion he likes to leave things late.

You have to look at how much Chelsea had invested in the seasons before. You bought a huge amount of 'potential' and then loaned those players out and waited for them to flourish and then sell at inflated prices.

Kuodos to Chelsea for seeing that they could exploit the market that way

Model only works if you have a bottomless pit of money to start with and that transfer fees continue to hyperinflate (latter is always likely, the former applies to a minute number of clubs playing by different rules to everyone else)
