Media: City have stranglehold on English game

Another good night for City on Tuesday ended with a 3-0 win over Preston in the Carabao Cup third round as the defence of our trophy got under way in comfortable fashion.
The press have reacted with praise for our young centre-halves - and Jurgen Klopp has been speaking exclusively to the Liverpool Echo about last season's title race.
Here's the best of this morning's City news and opinion...

Manchester Evening News: Preston 0-3 City | Five Things We Learned

Tyrone Marshall writes: "City have won seven of the last eight domestic trophies - including the Community Shield - and it's a stranglehold on the English game that they have no intention of giving up just yet.
"While many managers in Guardiola's position would be tempted to play a team of kids, the Catalan again went with a mixture of established stars and youth, while also leaving enough insurance on the bench should the game plan go wrong.
"There has been a suggestion that jettisoning the Carabao Cup might not be a bad idea for the Blues, who can focus instead on what looks like being another intense title race and on finally securing European success, but Guardiola will never subscribe to such an idea. He wants to win the lot."
London Evening Standard: Carabao Cup holders earn comfortable Deepdale win
James Robson writes: "Manchester City cruised into the fourth round of the EFL with a 3-0 win against Preston.
"And on the basis of this one-sided tie at Deepdale, Pep Guardiola will take some stopping in his bid for another domestic clean sweep.
"That’s because the treble-winners are blessed with such strength in depth that even after making nine changes his side will surely be too strong for the vast majority of the Premier League, let alone Tuesday’s Championship opposition."

Stuart Brennan writes: Eric Garcia

The 18-year-old was constantly organising, encouraging and cajoling, and his own passing and positioning were very good. 8
Taylor Harwood-Bellis
A terrific first touch and a couple of powerful headers showed both facets of his game - terrific composure for a 17-year-old defender 8

Liverpool Echo: Jurgen Klopp delivers the inside story on his Liverpool project including signings, games and big moments
Jurgen Klopp says: "If we would have had more luck in a season...I don't say Manchester City were lucky, my God, not at all, but they had it in parts where we didn't, but at the end of the season they had more than we had and it was really decisive with little goals here and there.
"They deserved it, 100 per cent, but if we come to the same situation again, I don't know [who wins].
"But learning from your own mistakes or success is the best thing you can do and so far, it looks like we have taken the right information out of our situation last year and tried to make the next step."
