I don’t care about football anymore

Morning guys

Just wanted to get your thoughts on something. So as background I’m in my mid to late 20’s and so have grown up in the fergie era. I’ve always lived in Manchester, and all my family are united fans (my grandad was at the 68 final) and so I’ve always been united mad.

Until the last 5 years or so.

My interest has deteriorated to the point where last night I actually forgot we were playing. Now some of you will say that I’m a glory hunter and my lack of interest coincides with us being bad, but it also coincides with the sudden passing of my father who I used to watch every single game with and go to around 10 a season with him.

I’m aware that I’m also older and so have a busier lifestyle and can’t accommodate the time each weekend to go to or watch united, so that’s probably part of it.

Has anyone else gone through something similar? Will my love for the game and club come back? I do miss the excitement.

I understand where you're coming from, going to games is as much a day out and time with my father as it is to watch Utd and I certainly couldn't imagine it without him.

The footballs shocking, I'm sure if we played more exciting football it'd be a bit different.

Not likely. Lots of people's priorities change as they get older. I started to lose interest in football when we were still winning titles. The main reason for me would have been the birth of my first child. As the kids get older and start getting interested in things you spend a lot of your time fitting that in. My son is 9 now and in that time I have done a whole load of things with him, including football, rugby, Jiu Jitsu, boxing, cubs, cricket and now he is into mountain biking. I'd rather spend my time watching him doing his sport. At the moment I am loving the mountain biking as it is something that I can do with him rather than just watching.

As a season ticket holder sitting with a lot of regulars I can only describe the current position as a mass depression that you can feel through the whole club and passes through all aspects from players to fans.

If I’m watching an away match on tv I don’t react if we score a goal or if we concede and it doesn’t ruin my weekend like it certainly used to it we lose I just accept it.

Last night I knew we would have chances and miss them all and Arsenal would equalise after a screw up and of course it happened just like I knew it would.

Watching united and going to OT used to create every emotion from the highest high to the lowest low but now it creates nothing just an empty feeling and a lot of reds I know and go to games feel the same, the spark has just gone out.

Sorry to hear about you loss vtl

In regards to the article, I would say I do still care, however I also don't see our current squad matching up to the teams we're 'supposed to be competing with' so the results don't currently hurt as much as I kind of expect them.

When we were on top of our game, matches against the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool etc... would have me on the edge of my seats whether it was a good game or not just because you did not want to lose. Now I half expect to us to not win so there is less tension during games for me.

Unlike some of the fanbase though, I don't blame Ole. You only have to look to the world class manager before him who came and failed with much better squads.

The problems lie further up the food chain and with the current personnel in the team. Ole has started to rectify this with 3 promising signings, he can't however do it all in one go.

I'm not sure we even have the best attackers in the top 6/7, let alone top 4 so I'm not surprised at our current predicament.

Aguero, Kane, Aubameyang, Salah, Mane, Firmino, Son, Vardy, Lacazette to name a few are all better than anything we have goalscorer-wise.

Creativity-wise the Silvas, De Bruyne, Liverpools trio, Eriksen, Maddison, Mount are again all better than anything we have in this department.

OT has been apathetic ever since Jose arrived, the hope has gone.

A friend of my managed to get tickets to Arsenal and Liverpool with a membership, no problem. That used to be impossible.

When I was young I went to every home game, and plenty of away games. I was passionate about the game and the team. Of course I wanted us to do well but the passion didn't change for me even when we were poor.
When I stopped going, retired and started a different life in France, I find I have much less passion, I would not do what I did before to watch a game, but I still get a lot of enjoyment watching, reading and talking about the game and our team.
I have come to realise it's not vital that we are always near the top, just that I get fun watching it. I doubt that will ever go;
