Team going forward

Given our recent performances, there seems to be a general desire to shake things up and get rid of Poch and/or half the players. However, the latter is easier said than done (and won't happen until January at least) and I do feel Poch has earned a stay of execution.

So, my immediate solution would be to shake things up in a different way and change the team around. Not necessarily in any major way but with a view to the future. And I think, given our full-back issues, the best thing is to switch to a 3-5-2, which can adapt to a 3-4-3, going forward. It eliminates the need for full-backs as such, means we have three players at the back who know how to defend (including Sanchez, who has the speed to get back that the other two CBs lack), and more defensive cover in CM in the shape of Dier. This would allow players like Ndombele and Winks the freedom to move forward more, rather than having to be both defence and attack. I haven't seen enough of Lo Celsco to know where he is best placed, and this system maybe wouldn't get the most out of Dele or Lamela, although both would be options in CM or further up the pitch.

The personnel is another issue, as we don't really hve a natural RM, but Sissoko could work there. Rose would be fine on the other flank, with less defensive responsibility, but with Sessegnon fit he will hopefully be the future.

It's a system wich should work better defensively, while making the most of our surplus of midfielders. Thoughts?

Top priotities in the transfer window either way are, IMO, a right midfielder/wing back and at least one CB, unless Jan or Toby sign another contract (we need to replace at least one of them regardless I think).

Lloris
KWP Toby Verts Davies
Dier Winks
Lucas Ndombele Son
Kane

I would like to try this for Brighton. Ndombele clearly has the attributes to be a better attacking midfielder than a defensive one. He can drop back a little as and when needed.

Kwp let’s just give him till January as at this point we have nothing to lose as any other player is likely to make more mistakes.

Not a fan of gentle Ben but rose can fack off.

Why Dier over Sissoko?

Yep, I agree, Dier could prove key to us moving forward if he can get back to the player he was before his illnesses.

RIGHT BACK !!!!

i cannot believe that the club has not addressed the right back issue. levy poch and whoever else is responsible for the debarcle should fine themselves for negligence.

its a joke.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But we could play without one. 3-5-2 or 3-4-3 would allow us to do this.

We can't play Foyth at RB if we're insisting on this diamond - he's far too slow.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Foyth at RB has never been an acceptable solution to the issue for a team who (going into the start of the season) should have been aiming to make a title challenge and win something.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
never know until he has stinkers there. we are going to have to pay big dollar for a RB and there are no stand out available candidates.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Saw enough stink in the preseason friendly vs Bayern.

Especially as Poch had made comments about Dier and Davies being able to play at CB - with those two, Sanchez, Toby, Jan, Foyth and Tananga we have enough players to be able to do it.

Dier being backup for Sanchez or Winks

KWP being backup for Sissoko

Sessegnon being backup for Rose

Eriksen, Alli, Lamela being backups for Lo Celso and/or Son/Lucas as appropriate

More players urgently needed at right back, defensive midfield, winger and striker (where have I heard that before)
