Tomori and RJ

How good was Fiyako last night (bar brain fart at end).

Have we found the man to partner Rudi?

And RJ, future Chelsea captain

Tammy Hudson get the headlines but these two could be the leaders we are looking for too

I’m for the Reece James as captain movement. Last night he was ok..showed his strengths in crossing and strength in defence, just maybe not as incisive and forward thinking on ball as he could have been.

Tomori was our best player I thought perhaps tarnished a bit with the two mistakes at the end. He is excellent at bringing ball out, he is like an auxiliary midfielder with ball, as he is comfortable on both feet, has passing range, good acceleration and can carry the ball well for a CB. I think he could probably play in midfield if need be and he has played as full back before at club level.

Me too, first time I had heard this story.

tbf during the Seventies we weren't taking big numbers to West Ham ourselves, no one in London was. It was a properly naughty place to go at the time. I went there many times during that period and never actually came unstuck myself but saw and heard many horror stories at the time. So if the Scousers bottled it to such a degree then it wouldn't surprise me.

The turning point was when Spurs drew them in the League Cup there in 1980 and were given the entire South Bank of 7,000. This gave Clubs like us the encouragement to turn out there in big numbers which we did 2 months after Tottenham in February 1981. After that the fear factor for everyone was gone.

Was a regular football match goer at this time...both at the Bridge, at away games and sometimes at Pompey games too...thinking back, I was pretty close to some bad stuff in places
Dark days for football thankfully mostly gone now
