Leicester v Southampton PreMatch Utterances

Another week, another game – and on a Friday night. The traditionalists will be delighted as will the brave souls who travel down to Southampton for this game after work.

I’ve recently realised that the prospect of facing some teams fills me with different types of emotion: anticipation, dread, excitement, resolution, nervousness etc … but Southampton? Complete and utter ambivalence. They’re not a team I particularly like, hate or watch with any interest. I don’t care whether they win or lose and I can’t remember any sort of rivalry with them or memorable games. They’re probably a similar sized club to us and, without any local context, are not a club that unduly concerns us. I was, however, surprised to see that they only have one FA Cup win in terms of major trophies in their history. I would’ve thought they’d had a few more. One more FA Cup than we have I suppose.

Scraping the barrel my recent memorable game was the one where we thrashed them under Puel. It was a time when we were filled with optimism about the new manager and the direction of the club. A new passing and possession philosophy and it looked like the right man to evolve the team and take us forward. It may not quite have worked out like that, but it probably was an important stage of transition we were going through and this was the one game that looked like it might be Puel who would see it through.

So what about this match? Any thoughts? Team changes? Tactical deviations? It’s all a bit boring isn’t it? Is it not just pick the same side and repeat?

It might be worth a quick discussion about which two start out of Gray, Barnes, Albrighton and Perez. I still can’t shake this feeling off that Albrighton will return to the side at some point and become the main man again – it’s the curve every manager goes through.

Any other thoughts? Two DMs? Grrrrrrrrr …….

Exactly like that Joby.

I think we should play Gray as a false number 9 in a 4-2-3-1 with two defensive midfielders. I mean, it’s not as if anyone has ever tried that and failed miserably is it?

Has nobody ever thought of playing Gray as a right back?

Personally I think it's worth trying. Give Ricardo a rest.

My team for So'ton:

Schmiechel
Gray, Evans, Ndidi, Chilwell
Praet, Tielemans
Albrighton, Maddison, Barnes
Vardy

Subs:
Ward, Soyuncu, Ricardo, Choudhury, Perez, Ndukwu, King

Perez and Barnes for me, lets get some confidence going in them by keeping them in.

Like your team Dunge, Ndidi alongside Evans, never thought about that before.

Can't believe anyone is still talking about Gray starting though.

Being serious for a second, I would like more Praet in the team.

Where do we all think he fits best?

Obviously had too good a night on the pop Dunge. Here's my suggestion:

Ward
Ricardo Evans Soyuncu Justin
Ndidi
Perez Praet Tielemans Barnes
Vardy

Subs: Schmeichel Chilwell Benkovic Choudhury Gray Maddison Albrighton

Leaving Maddison on the bench, Nuneaton?

A bit controversial don't you think?

Mainly because I don't think he's fully fit, but I liked seeing Praet too.

I do love these posts we have had so many praets in our team in the past, maybe Gray as left back in the changing room (its an oldy but a goldy) well how will our wingless wonders perform anyone for an unchanged team Tomorrow?

In all seriousness I’m happy to stick with Perez - for now. I’d like to see how he develops.

That’s despite my better judgement that Albrighton would currently offer more in the short term. Similarly I’d stick with Barnes and not change much unless it’s a fitness issue.
