Granit Xhaka statement

After taking some time to reflect on what happened on Sunday afternoon, I would like to give you an explanation rather than just a quick response.

The scenes that took place around my substitution have moved me deeply. I love this club and always give 100% on and off the pitch.

My feeling of not being understood by fans, and repeated abusive comments at matches and in social media over the last weeks and months have hurt me deeply.

People have said things like “We will break your legs", “Kill your wife" and “Wish that your daughter gets cancer".

That has stirred me up and I reached boiling point when I felt the rejection in the stadium on Sunday.

In this situation, I let myself be carried away and reacted in a way that disrespected the group of fans that support our club, our team and myself with positive energy. That has not been my intention and I’m sorry if that’s what people thought.

My wish is that we get back to a place of mutual respect, remembering why we fell in love with this game in the first place.

Let’s move forward positively together.

Granit

Despite everything he might be a player we can actually sell for a reasonable sum.

I don't know tbh. He hasn't covered himself with glory on the pitch....well ever at Arsenal. His arrival along with Mustafi and Kols has coincided with us missing out on the Champions League. Even if you overlook that because Enbglish football doesn't suit everyone, as a buying club how do you overlook his fragile mentality that was plain to see?

I'm thinking £15-20m at most which I would consider a reasonable sum for him and keeping in mind how poor we have been when it comes to selling players in recent years.

The club is just too big for him as a player with his glaring weaknesses but I still feel there are other clubs that would be happy to have the Swiss captain.

Perhaps a return to Borussia M.

Not sure why I quoted myself there

I just wonder if his agent tried which is why we had the strange quote from Max Eberl.

"Of course, as a player, I could always picture him as a good player, but it's difficult to get him back. Not just financially, but also from the point of view of expectations."
"Players develop and change. In the end, you could end up doing more damage than you can win, so I'm not really a fan of return."

Oof, sounds like that door could be closed already then.

Why haven’t the club fined him yet, or stripped him of the captaincy?

Either it’s a return to the bad old days (already) of ignoring a problem and hoping it’ll go away by itself, or they’re leaving it up to Emery to deal with. A sort of, ‘this is your mess, you clean it up’ kinda thing.

I suspect its delicate cause of the voting for captain nonsense. It will be far easier dealing with it if we were to perform without him in the team. He is obviously a dressing room big mouth and now a discontented one. Think Emery should be hard now. He has nothing to lose.

We have sold players like Iwobi for 35M. Captain of Switzerland and captain of arsenal. At least 40M

I hope you're right but I don't see us getting £40m for him after everything that has happened, Iwobi is younger with more potential overall as a footballer.

£25m tops imho.
