It's somehow managed to make things even worse in terms of getting the right decisions on the pitch and if that wasn't bad enough it's killed the joy of watching the game.
We now get even worse decisions than we used to get before VAR (such as the penalty given to Watford yesterday) and even more insulting is having to wait around during a game so that these awful decisions can be given.
And don't bother to actually celebrate a goal when it's scored now as there's every chance it will be chalked off for being half a centimeter offside. I'm pretty sure that was never the point of the offside rule and advantage should be given to the attacker if it's as marginal as that.
VAR is utterly shambolic at present.

I seem to be in the minority when I say that I like VAR. It's not technology's fault that the referees are idiots. They just don't know how to use VAR properly. If anything, we should do away with referees using the system, and just have some kids who know how to manipulate the technology better and faster, and allow them to quickly share the information with the onfield ref as well as the crowd. The crowd would be kept informed, and the facts could be analyzed and relayed much faster.
You can't expect old dinosaurs (like referees) to use new technology and be experts with it immediately. That's not what they are good at (if anything). Hire technology experts to use the technology - and have the onfield referee make the decision based on facts provided to him.

Yeah some good points Blue J2. When I say VAR is shambolic I'm very much including the refs in that. As you say the tec is fine, it's how it's being used that's the issue. Or in this case how badly it's being used.

Absolutely. VAR is something that'll get better with time. There's nothing wrong with the technology itself, just the way it's being utilized atm.

VAR doesn't really apply to the tec being used though. By definition it means Video Assistant Referee which simply means another referee looking at the incident on video replay.
So VAR being shambolic is completely a judgement on the referees that are making these very poor calls.

I only get that impression when people talk about it interfering with the flow of matches, making the game less entertaining, etc... it's a great tool being poorly utilized.
I agree with Brummie's idea about a 30 sec timer put onto decisions. I also wouldn't be against an appeal system (similar to cricket) where the team get a set number of inquiries & the captain makes the call whether to do so - be a great way to give the captain some actual on-field responsibility, besides symbolic things like keeping the players in line and "looking like he cares".

Well Superb, Looks like Lineker is trying to take credit for my idea on Match of the Day!

And Southampton 'B' getting the rub of the green with it today.
1st goal should have been a pen down the other end seconds before and if Sheffield Uniteds 'goal' was offside yesterday then so was Salahs today (although for the record I believe both of those 'offside' decisions should never have been given).
