Things could have been so different for Martial had we not been mismanaged. Story of most of our squad, specifically attackers, to be fair.

Zaha Martial Depay

That should have really been our front three right now. The players obviously need to take some responsibility, but the common denominator in talented attackers failing to develop is this club. Sad to see.

Yep which is one of the issues with management. Though Van Gaal didn’t help either. He did nothing with Depay or Zaha. Imagine if we’d got Klopp all those years ago.

Very true although I doubt lvg would have got rid of depay as quickly as Jose did despite his poor performances.

Zaha and Depay between them must be worth about 120-130 mill in today's market

I think he would have. Their relationship went sour by the end. I was surprised Depay didn’t get more of a lok in under Mourinho. He’s more of a winger than Martoal, and a bigger talent. Depay’s performances weren’t good enough but that’s the one we really facked up with.

Seem to recall Van Gaal starting with Depay at 10 when he first signed him, then as an emergency 9 when we had injuries. Can’t remember how much time he actually got out wide.

Really? He was on the left pretty much every time he played.

His debut v Spurs was definitely at 10 and I think there were a few soon after - he was poor there. He played at 9 in at least one game at Watford - he actually scored and we went top, unbelievably. Think Martial and Rooney were injured and this was before Rashford came in so there’d probably be more.

He would have played wide a fair bit, yes. Maybe they’re the games where he was so anonymous I’ve blanked them out

Yep I suspect so, he played there pretty much every game. The games in the middle and on the right were rare.

I wouldn't mind him coming back to Man Utd. This Utd team is set up for a player like Zlatan.

Hopefully he comes back. It's hard to get any decent strikers in January anyway so getting someone the players already know and something different to what we currently have could help the younger players learn certain things.
