All Time England XI

As voted for by the public

As much as I think Gazza was a talent, others such Lamps, and Robson were better for England, and surely we have had a better RB than Neville?

Can't argue too much with the rest!

I’d just have the 66 squad tbh, plus a couple that played in 70.

Always difficult because most people haven’t seen any England pre mid 80s on here, from what I can gather.

Very little argument against Neville when you look back at all of England’s right backs.

People will say Cohen without ever having watched him play and that’s about it. Neville was a superb full back.

Neville is there in the absence of any better options at right sided full back.

Which is kind of the idea behind these "Best XI's".

What are the all time goal stats excluding qualifiers and friendlies?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Lineker 10
Shearer 7
Rooney 7
Owen 6
Kane 6
Hurst 6

At euros and world cups (I think)

----------------------------------------------------------------------
And how many of Kane's were penalties?

Not sure what's wrong with Neville tbh, fantastic right back he was.

yup, he support play and crossing was brilliant, was difficult to beat, guess its just the "cool" thing to say

Only thing I'd say about Neville is that his skill set was limited. Unable to beat players etc, no skill or real pace. . But that's not a criticism the rest of his game was good and he was the definition of solid.

how dare you his piece of skill against on the touchline at anfield before crossing and flappy james dropping the ball was magical

Wouldn't beat a man with pace or trickery no, but the timing of his runs and knowing when to overlap was spot on, obviously his partnership/understanding with Beckham being a big part of that. Often found himself in space due to his footballing brain, failing that he'd just cross it from deep with great accuracy.

Yes, in 2019 he would be regarded as limited as that position has changed.

But in his day, he was a fantastic right back.
