Ole nailed his comments.
This team under Jose would have got battered at 0 - 2.
His choice to play Jones cost us as switching to normal brought us into it.
Our midfield is dire, but to come back like that in any situation is good.
Fair result overall (based on liVARpool decisons). Onto Villa.
Williams - I like that kid!!
Whilst that was bad..

I'd have thrown Garner in the middle. And before you say, we can't throw a young kid in, we can and today we had to, if we didn't want to be overrun. Playing that midfield two was only ever going to end in tears. It took Ole 45 minutes longer than most to see that, sadly. No point in setting out with a formation that couldn't possibly see us gain anything

Again, not disagreeing with you, valid points. But people have been arguing when weve played youngsters that we should have done this or that.
Me personally, id have sold jones the minute i became manager let alone start him today. With what we did have and what he went for, i can see his thinking and as u said, he should have made a change/switch sooner but how many games a season will you see a manager make a sub in the first half (unless its a beating?)
We went in down by 1 (as has happened to us and others countless times) made the change, went down again, made another change and came back - its shows me that he does know his faults.

The front 3 isn't the problem. A midfield two absolutely is. And no, we shouldn't have needed 3 centre backs against Sheffield United. We got ourselves in front after that catastrophic formation was abandoned, then Ole took off a forward for a defender and we conceded again.
But yeah, he's the man for the job. He was appointed based impeccable credentials and I don't think there are any more capable managers than Ole. He'll be getting a knighthood in no time

The truth is the formation is the best counter for this formation

Yet we played much better when we switched to a back four. United don’t play well with a back three/five, the teams that have taken points off Sheffield this season have so with a back four.
This narrative on here that a team must mirror an opposition’s formation to counter it is one of the biggest myths going.

Two thirds of the match they pretty much butchered you.

Luckily for us Paisley it's goals that count, not the run of play.

hi manu. do you think their third goal should have stood. looked like a shoulder to me but i haven't seen a replay yet.

It was definitely shoulder... would have been harsh if it's been ruled out

It was bad management to play start with a midfield two, yes. It's absolutely astounding that Ole set that team out with two CMs, one of whom was the plodding Pereira and thought we could be anything other than overrun. Do I expect the Man United manager to be able to see what the majority of our fans could? Yes. And we shouldn't "dumb down" expectations just because it's Ole and he's a former player. It's embarrassing
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Out of curiosty, the post is quite passionate so fair play, with what we have available what would you have done?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It will revisionist. The truth is the formation is the best counter for this formation. Using the front 3 is the what Ole stands for. Nothing wrong with the formation.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yep, I agree.
We could have lined up with a 3-4-1-2, which might have been more effective because we’d at least have had someone between the lines on more than one or two occasions in the first 60 minutes. But three at the back and wingbacks was the right way to go.
The biggest problems today were that firstly, the front three were absolutely diabolical for sixty minutes, particularly in their movement, which was amongst the worst I remember seeing in a United attack; and secondly, that Fred and Pereira couldn’t pass the ball over even ten facking yards with any degree of consistency and seemed to be conspiring to feed the Sheff United midfield and forwards at every opportunity.
The players are the ones who should be apologising to the manager and fans today.

The players were not with Ole for 70 mins today and in the few mins before Ole blew it by changing a formation he stumbled upon that worked they just said f**k it and enjoyed themselves, but the rabbit in the headlights tinkered and the flame extinguished as fast as it appeared .

I don't think you can blame OGS for trying to shut up shop. Every manager does it. It's not like they created any legitimate chances in that time. They scored an illegal goal and that was it.
