Why are these 2 not playing? Ljundberg is definitely as poor as Emery (no shock as he was assistant and he has no managerial experience). Smith-Rowe is not ready, Nelson is not either. We have zero prescense in midfield. Can we remove these two and use Laca as a 10 and Pepe right? It cant be worse than what we have...even defensively.

From Freddie's interview he said his selection was because the guys trained well and he wasn't happy with how they (senior players) played against Man City.

Its the players making the most noise abt wanting to leave. Xhaka, Torreira, Auba. Obviously Freddie wanted to show they still care.

Pepe has been tracking back plenty this season, one game against City where the whole team were overrun is not even worth consideration.

Well obviously he’s not otherwise he’d start

There is not a single player in the squad who can moan about being left out of our starting XI. They have all been well below par, Laca and Pepe two of the worst in all fairness.
You do wonder if it was a request by Arteta in some cases though. Maybe he wants a reaction for Bournemouth.
Also worth noting we are in a busy Christmas period and rotating will be done. Again, Arteta may have asked for certain players to be left out so he can play his preferred XI on Thursday.

I don't think Arteta had any say in team selection. Thats what Keown hinted at anyway. The club is still putting together his backroom staff and obviously preparation for the next game starts almost immediately in this Christmas period.

I'm sure he spoke with Freddie. What would monkey head know?

I doubt Arteta had much say in the team selection but it's clear that it's very toxic in the dressing room and he wastrying to lay down the law which would be supported by Arteta.
